kind of weird how parts of your soul are left in various locations without any warning… like yes i’m always at the top of that hill, sitting at the bus stop, in the cool light of the Japanese restaurant, standing at the pier etc etc
Pride Flag Quilt Top
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH EVERYBODY!!! I recently finished this pride flag quilt top, which I'll be displaying at my local pride event next week!
I wanted each block to be different and eye catching in its own way, so that you don't get bored looking at bland stripes. This project is a labor of love. I did the math on piecing nearly every block, save for the house block on the bottom right corner. That came from a book. I went through quite a struggle doing all the math to make the blocks that are split diagonally by color. Those were the ones that took me the longest to get through. The regular solid color rainbow blocks? I flew through those in two days, lol!
I'll share closeups below the cut:
Your color palette names sound like fic names on AO3 or something.
Am I allowed to use them as that? Like “flower crown to weigh you down” would be such a cool title (or chapter title) for a fic I’m working on rn.
Yes, you may.
Draw a puppy with a flower crown.

Choose a villain from a 1980s-era cartoon. Make a quick sketch of the character to familiarize yourself with the original design. Then redesign the character however you like.Â

A little more than a quick sketch, but eh.

i really like the colour palettes you make c:
Thank you!
Idk if I should ask here or on the color palette blog, but I'm only 98% sure that you also run the color palette blog, so I'm asking here just to be sure it reaches the right person. Do you want to share what your thoughts were behind the color palette "versions of you" (both the name and the colors)? If you saw the tags on my reblog you might know I found it unexpectedly touching and I will forever keep my own interpretation, but I was wondering what yours was as the creator
I actually don’t run the color palette blog!
I settled on the name for Versions of You before deciding on the colors. My general hope was for it to mean several things, so your interpretation is intentionally included in that. But I guess the closest analogy to my aim for “Versions of You” would be an art assignment I did in high school where each student drew a self portrait. In this self portrait we partitioned the page and each partition we would change the style of the self portrait to represent a different aspect of ourselves. This could be interpreted as who we hope to be, how others view us, roles we play, changes we’d gone through, who we chose to be, imagined alternate universe versions of ourselves or whatever else we could think of.
Deciding on the colors was surprisingly hard. For something so open-ended as that, one would think that any palette would be fine, right? It was easy to decide that a simple monochromatic or complementary palette wouldn’t be diverse enough for the aim, but a full rainbow seemed just a bit too on the nose. I actually held off for a while because many palette didn’t feel “just right” for the title, but I finally decided that no palette would be perfect and settled on the red, red-orange, yellow, green and blue palette you got. It kind of fits that way. No version of ourselves is “perfect”. Maybe I don’t like the version of me that is a yellow that doesn’t feel quite so sunny (or maybe I do).
I am glad that you found something in this palette and I believe in every version of you.
How do you name your palettes?
Lots of ways!
Sometimes I just have some words rattling around in my brain that feel weighty or silly or evocative and I’ll add them to a list to give to a color pallet later. Sometimes a color palette just feels like something and I’ll make up a name around that. There was a series of palettes that I used fragments of nursery rhymes that I trimmed in a way that felt title-shaped. A handful of palette names come from whatever I was listening to when I made it (Tiny, Tasty Doppelgangers, for example, is a quote from historian Lucy Worsley).
Beyond that, I usually aim to choose palette names that have potential to inspire people to create. People use the colors themselves for all sorts of things from choosing which colors to color a coloring book page with to planning the interior design of a room, so my hope is that the palette names can equally inspire a variety of creative pursuits like stories or songs. If nothing else, I hope they are as fun for you as they are for me.
this post will find you when it needs to find you.
just some facts: you are loved. you are not alone. you are valuable. you are worthy of good things. you are deserving of self love and forgiveness. i’m glad you’re still here.

thoughts on making OKLCH the default color space and color picker everywhere?
OKLCH seems interesting. It’s not yet used in my workspace, so I have the luxury to take my time settling into any changes.
