a little treat.
ft. Taavi ( @mptaavi ) & Theodora.
The Black Forest.
Theodora stood outside the shop and stared at its name. It sounded ominous, mysterious and delicious. Would they sell slices of the black forest cake inside? Cherries, cream and chocolate. What was there not to love? Maybe the liquor. But one would turn a blind eye. Like her mom did whenever one of her friends would give their slice to an underage Theodora.
But enough with standing in the middle of the street. Despite being used to move around, this had been a stressful week. Arriving at Mount Phoenix, moving into a new apartment and presenting herself at the local library and archive took a toll on her. She deserved a little treat. She deserved cake.
"Hello", she greeted softly, while stepping into the shop. Immediately, her eyes got fixed on the sweet, colourful, wonderful showcase of dreams, pardon, pastries in front of her. Cakes, cookies and other sort of pastries. Dear god, where to start?
"Excuse me," Theodora lifted her hand to get the attention of the person on the other side of the counter. There were too many good things to taste but she was only one person. She needed professional help. "Is there a cake of the day? Which one do you recommend for someone who just got here?"
Taavi had just finished filling the displays with a new batch of pastries and breads, the delicious scents wafting all around him, probably escaping from the wide open door. It was a beautiful day and the young baker hummed to himself, piling the fresh cinnamon buns in their basket. Hopefully, there would be leftovers for him to bring back to Prince and Dao.
His brother had quickly become a strong fixture in his life and he was glad that his roommate was getting along with him pretty well. The three of them were spending as much time together as possible and Taavi was glad that he was able to treat them with delicious meals and desserts.
The Mayan demigod looked up at the voice. Jiayi was on her break and he smiled to welcome the new client, a lovely young woman. "Hello ! Welcome to Black Forest !" He wiped his hand on his apron, ready to help with the best of his abilities.
"We have a delicious honey and lemon cake today" he announced, moving to show the lovely pastry. "The honey is from the island so I think it’s a lovely choice to know more about Mount Phoenix."
Among her mother's friends, Theodora was known as quite the sweet tooth. Whenever someone stopped by at their place, they'd bring a bottle of wine and a box full to the brim with the sweetest and cutest pastries that minimum wage could buy. While her mother would take care of the wine, no slice of cake or teacake would go unnoticed on Theodora's watch.
Fortunately, the girl possessed a strong set of teeth and a fast enough metabolism that allowed her to stuff her face with the most delicious of foods. So much that it would make Princess Anna from Frozen proud. Whether those traits were inherited from her mother or her father's side, though, Theodora was yet to find out. But there would be time for that later.
"That sounds deliciously lovely," the young historian had to fight the urge to groan and to lick her lips in public. She was still getting to know her surroundings as well as the inhabitants of this island. She couldn't make a fool of herself yet.
"I'd like a honey and lemon cake, please, and..." Theodora took another look at the showcase, wondering if it would be socially acceptable to ask for a second pastry or if her mother would pop up to warn her about the sugar and whatnot. If only.
"What kind of beverage do you think goes best with a honey and lemon cake? An iced coffee, perhaps?" It is important to keep the balance of the universe.

❛ we can't keep doing this. ❜
ft. ( @mpxalexander )
Sweaty and out of breath, Theodora looked up at him. Her heart thumped within her chest and her lungs claimed for air. With the exertion, her clothes felt tight, like a second skin on her body. She felt warm but sticky. A few strands of black hair found their way out of her scrunchie and now framed her face, accentuating her ruby cheeks.
Theodora couldn't remember the last time she felt like this. In fact, she wondered if she ever felt like this at all. It was an odd sensation, but definitely not a bad one.
"I know, I know. But..." she muttered under the breath she was still catching on. It took her a moment, but Theodora regained control of her breathing. Or just enough that she could speak without pausing as often. She cleared her throat, inhaled and a second later exhaled.
"You're right," the historian looked over her shoulder to the mostly empty street behind them. No one seemed to be following them, let alone chasing them. Good. Theodora was not sure how much more running she could handle. Not to mention the weight of her backpack on her back. She couldn't bring so many books from the library.
"What happened? What got into him? Why was he chasing us?" The questions kept on coming but no answers followed them. The only thing she was sure about was that she needed to work out more. "It was chaos back there."

Cat Antics
Just a small discussed response thread to @mpxtheodora's ask reply~ It was too cute to pass up! From Here
Sun let off a soft laugh of his own at the other demigod's response, shaking his head a little at the minor credit she'd given herself. "No no, I mean it! They really were being a bit stubborn, poor thing. I think they might have been abandoned so I guess they couldn't trust even me. I think you being there was meant to be." He stated lightly, looking at the cat with a soft sigh. He really felt bad for cases like these, he couldn't even imagine someone leaving behind such a precious being.
"They jumped around a lot but eventually decided they'd be safe with you I think. We still need to get them looked at but once they've calmed down enough I'll ask what happened for a fuller story. Would you come with me to Stop&Paws? I don't think they'd let me take them myself." He continued, gaze running over the cat to try and note what he could without the proper equipment just in case there was anything dire going on that could be made note of on the way.
Black hair, sharp eyes and a tinge of resentment for being left behind. It took one to know the other, Theodora thought. And perhaps that was the reason why the kitten decided to be caught. And yes, it wanted to be caught because, from her previous experiences with the species, it was clear they possessed a will of their own.
Theodora found cats to be puzzling creatures. Fluffy and adorable, of course, but puzzling. There were times when it felt they were the carriers of the mysteries of the universe, for their eyes came in many swirls of colours and how highly they'd carry themselves.
"You can call me the cat whisperer, then," she commented with a little smile, although the historian still thought she did little to nothing to help him. Yet she put that thought aside at the mention of asking what happened and of a fuller story.
"You can talk with animals?" Now that was something Theodora didn't hear every day. Could every inhabitant at Mount Phoenix speak with animals? Were they all secretly Disney princesses? Again, she held that thought, for a more pressing question that needed answering. "If you don't mind, I'd like to go with you. Just to make sure the kitten is safe and sound."

CHAERYEONG CHILDREN’S DAY LIVE
a wild strand.
ft. Cyhiraeth ( @mpxcyhiraeth ) & Theodora | continued from here.
Archivists and librarians are to historians what superheroes are to children: the coolest people out there. Not only did they know the library and archive where they worked like the palm of their hand, but they also knew pretty much each book existed and where to find them. If Theodora didn't know the effort they'd put into their work, she'd call it wizardry. Hence the first rule of the History club: one should always be nice to archivists and librarians.
"Just a smidge," Theodora reassured, brushing away the last evidence of dust. "And done."
The young historian took a step back and clasped her hands behind her back, allowing the archivist to go on with her job. Personal space was something very, er...personal. Theodora did not want to intrude.
"I was told that some of them don't mind the dust and that it helps with preserving them. But I also heard that you need to keep the environment they're in at the right temperature, otherwise, they'll get damaged rather quickly." She was a sucker for antique objects to the point her mom had to sweet talk her out of antique shops more than once. "What kind of things did you see?" A rare book? A century-old ink pen? A magical wardrobe that grants you passage to another world?

the subtle art of befriending.
ft. Yeji ( @mpyeji ) & Theodora | continued from here.
Theodora decided it was time to take a break from work and have a little snack. From afar, when she was stepping away from the vending machine, which was always her best friend and her worst enemy, she spotted Yeji. Now, it wasn't like her to make a habit of stalking people, but when they last met, Yeji struck her as a nice and friendly person. Why should Theodora turn away in the face of making a friend?
With a Snickers bar in one hand and a cup of coffee and milk in the other, the young historian made her way to the other girl and offered her company. Thank goodness, Yeji agreed with it. Otherwise, it would've been awkward.
"I heard of that book and author before, but I never read it," Theodora commented, sipping on her drink while her eyes fixed on the orange cover with bold letters. "I think he has another book with a similar title. Everyone had their own copy of that one, a couple of years ago." In the same way, everyone seemed shocked by the cursing on the title. Theodora found it fun. But then again, Theodora was a teenager when the book came out. It felt self-explanatory.
"I think we'll have to wait until you finish the book," she held back a laugh. "If you start cursing, then, it's right to say it worked."
❛ i’d say we make a pretty good team. ❜
ft. ( @mpsundrop )
Sweaty and out of breath. This was not what Theodora had in mind for her Saturday evening, but here she was. She knew that cats could put up a challenge, it was like general knowledge, but she was not expecting this much of a fighter. Then again, as a black cat, one should be prepared to fight, no?
The historian in training sort of chuckled at the remark, a clear sign that perhaps she should go on walks and runs more often. "You're very kind for including me in that sentence, but you did all the hard work here! I was just at the right place at the right time." Theodora was just happy to have been of some help.
It took her a couple of minutes to get her breathing even, but once she felt like she could talk without spitting out her left lung, the girl peered at the little black hole with fur and a pair of bright green eyes. "It doesn't look that happy, does it?" Thea frowned a little. "And it looks so small like it hasn't been eating."

❛ just sit there and look pretty and let me handle this. ❜
ft. ( @mp-minry )
Theodora was not going to lie, being called pretty made her heart flutter and her cheeks warm up. She made her peace with her looks a long time ago, but it still felt like a novelty to be complimented. Let it alone this spontaneously. The only thing that concerned her was the situation in which the compliment was given. But a compliment is still a compliment, despite the situation, right?
"No, please, don't do that. It was my fault." It was not the first pile of books that Theodora knocked out at someone's bookshop. In her defence, she was left with no supervision and with a heavy backpack. On top of that, she had little sleep the night before, which roughly translated into a mayhem machine in the morning and for the rest of the day. Since she had survived going up and down the library's stairs, she thought that a short trip to the nearest bookshop was a well-deserved prize for her effort on staying alive awake.
Before anything else happened, she took off her backpack and put it aside before starting to pick up the fallen books. One after the other, it was a matter of seconds until Theodora put back the pile of books in place. "I was wondering when it would happen again, you know?" She chuckled. "Once, I managed to knock over two piles of books, and they were taller than this one! I turned around once, and when I heard the books falling over I turned around again, and the other pile fell down too. I got so embarrassed that it took me weeks to go back there, and when I did, I hoped no one recognized me."
❛ i could keep you safe. they’re all afraid of me. ❜
ft. ( @mpxcassandra )
That raised a lot of questions in Theodora's head. First, what kind of place was Mount Phoenix if its inhabitants were dangerous enough for someone to offer their protection? Second, if there was a chance of them being dangerous, and they feared her, what did that say about Cassandra? And third, did Theodora look so helpless to the point she had to be offered protection? Wait, there was a fourth question. What would be the cost of that protection if there was one?
The historian in training had no answers, except for one question. Theodora conceded that she was kind of helpless, even though she had been working on that. For example, she enrolled on Athena's self-defence classes. It would do her well to have something like a side quest to keep her mind out of work and her body out of the apartment. But still...
"Why are they afraid of you? You seem like a nice girl." The Greek god Apollo thought the same about her namesake, despite what happened next.
