When we were children, my sister had private music lessons at her violin teacher’s house. I only visited there once, but I still remember that afternoon. The teacher had an artificial pond in her yard, a large beautiful thing with lily pads and plant life. And in the pond, there were goldfish. I had never seen such enormous goldfish.
I spent several minutes just staring at them (and trying to convince them to bite my fingers.) When my sister’s violin lesson ended, her teacher came out to the yard and explained that these goldfish were the same small creatures that were often unfortunately sold in plastic bags at state fairs. They were only about two inches long apiece, when she bought them and put them in the new, empty pond. In essence, they were like every goldfish I had seen before, but they had been given a much larger, much richer environment in which to flourish. As a result, they had grown into some of the most remarkable, vibrant creatures my twelve-year-old self had ever met with. All because of a pond.
Funny what lessons children remember. My sister doesn’t play the violin anymore, but that was the first time I caught a glimpse of the overwhelming extent to which it matters, the way the world treats us.
Reblogged again for this drawing I made for it
Give us room to grow and see how we flourish.
they seriously expected us to worship cops & soldiers when street cleaners and sanitation workers exist? fuck off i know who my heroes are
I love The Golden Girls.
Ya’ll don’t have any idea how fucking brave and needed these plot lines were.
This was before Ellen came out.
This was before civil unions.
This was before Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
This was when your ass could be fired, blacklisted, and shunned with no legal protections for even being hinted at being gay.
And the Golden Girls said “Fuck you, Fuck this, we’re doing it anyway.”
I think it should be noted that Blanche’s quote about AIDS is also “It is not god punishing people for their sins” and that the episode also deals with slutshaming.
I don’t know if people realize how much activism these women did for gay right and during the aids crisis. If you think about it they were all long established in Hollywood and Broadway. They had tons of friends personally affected and dealing with the aids crisis. Estelle Getty lost a nephew. I think they helped plant seeds in people who watched Golden Girls that helped make things a little more normalized and mainstream.
i am delighted to inform you that wild bears seeking out and swinging on hammocks is in fact a fairly common occurrence!
thanks to @fandomislife03 for this extremely important information:
#as somebody born and raised in black bear country this is accurate #theyre also fond of backyard playgrounds
UPDATE: they also do this with backyard swimming pools
(and yes, same applies to kiddie pools)
oh 10/10 tags:
#The mama bear we have around here in the summer knows what she's doing#she stretches out in the sun under the fruit trees#and sends her cubs up the trees to throw fruit down to her

it would explain so much about Gotham economics if it turned out the only employers who pay a livable minimum wage are 1) Wayne Enterprises duh, but mainly 2) all of Gotham's assorted villains.
sure henching comes with shitty working conditions, but the benefits package is crazy competitive. they have dental
Gotham's villains are so engrained because supervillainy is the only thing propping up the local economy. henching requires no work experience, provides on-the-job training, and has a diversity hiring program (you're willing to commit crimes in tacky matching uniforms? great you're in, here's your gun and clownsuit)
Batman is constantly throwing money trying to compete but the fact remains that henchpeople are Gotham's largest workforce and will be until minimum wage laws catch up to reality
even educated jobs in environmental science are probably getting laundered money from poison Ivy. and a lab equipment tech might notice three different jobs are tied to pamela Isley and also happened to receive grants from "unrelated" shady shell orgs and the next one is setting up a temperature controled penguin habitat for some eccentric obvious mobster.
half of Gotham's supervillains have doctorates of course they're also funding the sciences (for crime purposes but still)
we need a new supervillain who gets drawn into villainy specifically to make money for funding grants. they come up with a theme and wacky outfit and loony backstory but at the end of the work day they change back into their alter ego (tired scientist with bags under their eyes and a hotpocket stuck in their labcoat). they're actually very mild mannered irl—the villain persona comes from their background in Theatre Arts
And this is why Bruce Wayne keeps trying to fund scientific research. But he doesn’t have the means to fund everything. So yet again villainy ends up still being the largest source of academic funding in Gotham.
When you request funding, if it’s from Wayne enterprises you need to include a bit about how it’ll benefit society. But depending on the shadow org you’re getting it from, every professor knows you need to include stuff about how it might progress or benefit efforts to potentially cure incurable diseases, or progress our understanding of extreme emotions like fear, or protect the environment, etc. There is one company where you merely need to mention penguins at some point, so there’s an academic paper out there about the effects of poverty on the LGBTQ+ community that happens to use a fictional community of penguins as example all the time. Two different organizations only give grants if there are enough puns in the request. And there’s one that seems to only give grants to researchers who want to solve some difficult scientific quandary, some big mathematical or linguistic puzzle or paradox that no one has figured out yet.
I can't find it, but I remember seeing a page from a comic based on the Batman: The Animated Series continuity where the Scarecrow had been doing community service at a community college where he discovered that the college age students attending were illiterate. He then went on to threaten the Gotham water supply unless the more funding was diverted to education. Robin manged to talk him down using Scarecrow's deep buried love of teaching or something.
What the hell do you mean "Robin talked him down"???? I'd assume in such case correct way is to say "tough luck, I cannot get to him, guess you just need to fund education" – what do you mean "talked him down"?
Like...I remember Robin on the ground and Scarecrow's escaping with a vial in his hands, either the toxins he was going to put in the water or the antidote for people already affected by the poisoning, and Robin said something that cause Scarecrow to stop, shed a tear, then angrily throw the vial at Robin and let himself get arrested.

I am absolutely floored, to be hit with the news that the show I played lead on for won a Silver Telly in Comedy, and the one contender that took Gold, was SOUTH PARK, a series I never expected to go head to head with in anything I was doing!
Playing Eita in Makina is a memory I will hold onto forever, and I cannot thank Ascendent Animation enough for this ❤
Also what a title

feels like a real step back that with all the sexual freedom available to us we moved to Hookup Culture instead of Having Sex With Friends Culture
I find it weird, actually, that today it's more common to have sex with casual acquaintances you meet on the Hookup App than to have sex with people you already know and like and have fun with. and how if two friends have sex, there's an assumption there must be underlying romantic feelings. because apparently casual non-romantic sex is fine, but only with people you don't already like and care about?
I feel like the hippies and people who lived through the Free Love movement would be rightfully disappointed at us for these made-up lines we're drawing between Sex/Romance and (gasp!) Friendship. shockingly, it's fine to have casual sex with people you enjoy hanging out with and do not want to date. fun and healthy even!
Ahhh... i dunno why but this feels like a result of purity culture.
Where 2 concepts clash:
You can have sex outside of marriage
But also sex is bad and you shouldn't do it.
It's not actually okay to have sex and it's shameful to do it and it'll taint your relationships if they know about it.
But also sex isn't bad and be free to do it whenever you want!
That turns into:
You can have sex but it's bad for your relationships.
So it's okay to have sex only if you're either planning to Marry them or Never seeing them again.
HUH.... Society really fucked us on this one (and not in the fun kinky way ☹️)
Four words: don’t go to bed without a big fucking jug of water because what if you wake up thirsty
please explain how this is four words and not 13
Subtract nine words from my words and then its four words
Don't Go To Bed
Got it!

Warlocks have a variety of patrons. From fel creatures to spirits, from lost artifacts to gods. Yours is very different. Somehow, your patron is Earth's military-industrial complex.
Despite the name, this is America Wizard
For someone to change, two things must happen:
1. They must be willing and wanting to change.
2. They must be allowed the chance to change.
I’m not Christian, I don’t go to church anymore, and my pastor died, but when he was alive I’d sometimes go to his sermons and I remember one time he said “it feels good to hate, but we know that it isn’t allowed, so when we’re told that we’re allowed to hate someone we get so excited that we forget we’re supposed to love”, and if my humble atheist ass might borrow some church talk I’d like to perhaps submit that
Anyhow sometimes on the day to day I feel disgust or revulsion and I have to ask myself “is this a danger to anyone at all or am I just looking for something I’m allowed to hate” and a solid 98/100 times it’s the latter so once again thank you pastor D
WHAT THE FUCK
If I have to be cursed with this knowledge then so do you!
Hello gamers. I’m gonna leave this bottomless hole here, whatever is bothering the hell out of you, I want you to throw in there.
🕳️
K bye.
Hmmm...if I just throw the problem in the hole...I'll never learn to deal with it on my own. When a new problem arises I'll be no better prepared to address it than before.
I appreciate the offer, and I'm sure there are people need the weight off thier back, but I think I'll be ok.
