This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.

“How did you know this was the right trail?” I read the sign.

“Wow, how did you know what that flower is?” There’s a SIGN.

“How did you know we needed to use the side door?” THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.

Just…why are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. There’s nothing wrong with their vision.

The process of getting a hEDS diagnosis can be beyond confusing. The nature of hEDS as a diagnosis of exclusion means that there are many steps to ensuring that a problem is actually hEDS and not another disorder that looks similar.

When people are navigating this diagnostic process without the guidance of doctors that are familiar with the hEDS diagnostic process they often end up missing other causes of their symptoms. It's not uncommon for disorders like lupus or even other types of EDS like cEDS and clEDS to go undiagnosed in this process. Some of the disorders that can look like hEDS can be lethal without (and sometimes even with) the right interventions so it's important to get an accurate diagnosis.

I created this chart as a way to simplify the steps for a hEDS diagnosis. This chart is definitely imperfect as it's hard to capture all of the nuances in ruling out hEDS differential diagnoses but I hope this helps make the process easier to follow.
