ough i donât know if i can pick one favourite, i love them all so dearly⌠there are some oc Concepts iâve come up with that i really like, but even then i couldnât pick just one. i think my top three for stuff about them iâm proud of creatively (in no particular order) would be valerie (her specific werewolf lore and the themes around monstrosity and mental illness), imber (spellcasting through self-injury, their visual design with all of its scars, + their visual motifs), and my d&d character icarus (i really like their character design + all of their themes and lore) but i think that answer is very subject to change.
Which of your OCs could survive as a it help desk worker?
oh this is a really good question, i like this one a lot
hm. i think perhaps crow has the correct combination of knowing enough about computers and experience in customer service to manage it? most of my other ocs are either too easily frustrated or do not have the it knowledge needed. esther could probably survive also
so the ocs occupying my thoughts right now are two new ocs named imber (it/they/any) and marren (he/she), particularly imber has me in a chokehold. i am going to explain the lore as it currently exists in my head under the cut - big warning for self harm, reader discretion is advised
so the premise of imber's character is that it's a spellcaster who uses magic through injury/pain. hence the warning - lots of self-injury, as you can imagine. i'm still working out the exact details of how this works/why imber's magic can only be used in this way. one concept i like is that they have some kind of internal well of magic that can only be released through injury, with different kinds of harm doing different things (e.g., a burn would allow them to do fire magic). its constantly covered in wounds at various stages of healing, as well as bandages, band-aids etc. my somewhat silly description of it has been "what if wound man was a transgender wizard." i also like the idea they have some kind of curse/infection perhaps connected to their magic that manifests as a plant like creeping thyme or something similar growing from within them.
imber is also a healer, both of itself and of others (though crucially their magic cannot be used for healing), in like a home remedy/medicinal plants sense in addition to first aid and such. think the intimacy of wound care but as a form of self care. i imagine them travelling around with a big wizard hat that has various herbs hanging from the brim to dry and carrying around a big bag full of medical supplies.
imber is a big Themes and Motifs character, the big one of course being healing and harming, comfort and pain, etc as contrasting themes. they're like if a forest regrowing after a wildfire was a person. imagery i have been associating with it is stuff like patchwork clothing, wildfires and electrical storms, albatrosses, fireweed, and blackberries.
AND THEN MARREN <3 she is so cool. he's the lead guitarist and a singer in a band that i have not yet figured out a name for. they're pretty well known locally, and have enough fans in other places to go on tour every once and a while. when not touring, marren has a real job of some kind in the city she lives on the outskirts of. marren also has some kind of pet beast i have yet to name that is a species that does not exist in our world but it's vaguely cat and fox-like. marren is both a musician and an artist. he likes painting, and will often customize her clothes with fabric paint. he's attempted sewing/embroidery a couple times but she's not as good at it as imber.
so the backstory for these two is that imber and marren grew up in the same place - some remote town in the wilderness - but got separated from each other in a big disaster, probably a wildfire. both survived, but lost track of each other for years and each kind of thought the other was dead. then almost by chance they manage to find each other again, in what was perhaps the most joyous reunion of all time.
imber and marren are in a romantic relationship, but just saying they're partners doesn't even really begin to cut it. they've been through hell together, lost and then found each other, and understand each other in a way nobody else does. they've been deeply in love since they were teenagers and their bond is unbreakable. a major aspect of their dynamic is that marren stays in mostly the same place, but imber has a deep need to wander and go elsewhere. as much as imber loves them and marren's mutual friends and spending time with marren, it craves the comfort and solitude of being out in the woods, going to a new place every day, and helping others on the road when it can. they also always make an annual trip to where it and marren used to live, now gone, the forest around it slowly returning. as much as marren misses imber when its gone, he understand why they need to go, and knows that soon enough it'll come back and the two of them will get to spend some time together again. the time apart almost makes it sweeter.
so yeah, they are incredibly special people in each other's lives. they do also have lots of other friends and i imagine their relationship is pretty open romantically, so they do have other partners as well, but i'm still developing those characters. this ended up being pretty long so thank you for reading all of that and thank you for asking about them!! :]
