Better yet when he does meet his mate the shadows almost seem to reach for her as to embrace her. Imagine the two of them sitting close and she reaches out to touch a tendril of the shadows and it playfully wraps around her finger and she smiles. It’s the most beautiful thing Azriel has ever seen. Then a couple of more tendrils reach out and tickle her on her neck behind her ear and make her giggle and it’s the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard.

He notices her looking at his hands and she quickly looks away. He feels embarrassed and the need to hide them, but really she was just thinking about how it would feel to have his hands all over her and she looked away because she was embarrassed about where her thoughts were going.

More than wanting Elucien to happen, I really want Azriel to have his own mate. Someone who completely gets and excepts him. I imagine him as a homebody. He would find someone who lays down while reading with her legs draped across his lap while he sits up reading whatever history book he could find.

I also don't care for Elaine that much, or at least not sure about her yet. I feel like she would eventually start taking advantage of his kindness and the relationship would become very one-sided. He would almost come to dread hearing his name drawl from her mouth, "innocently". He would know that she was only coming around because she needed something.

1. I find it hilarious that you find Bangel toxic but use misogynistic insults to describe Buffy in defence of Riley who is the picture of sexism wrapped in an “Iowa farm boy, Nice Guy” package.

It is absolutely not OK that Riley thinks he deserves a gold star for saying that he would never try to force himself on Buffy:

His sexual jealousy regarding Angel was ridiculous and he punishes Buffy for his own insecurities by allowing himself to get fed on in the vampire den as “payback” because she was bitten by Dracula

He slut shames her when it comes to Parker and he makes the way Buffy mourns Joyce’s death about him. 

Even the way Buffy is framed in relation to Riley, the episode he figures out he has feelings for her is the episode that Buffy is hapless and awkward and clumsy. 

When Riley returns in the sixth season and we meet his wife, she’s capable and strong but in a way that makes him feel comfortable and less threatened.

His chauvinism and sexism is not subtle:
