Hmmm. I went and hunted down every André Norton novel I could find. They were out of print by then, but we still had a very healthy used bookstore ecosystem back in the day.

Then it was Anne McCaffrey and Patricia McKillip and Robin McKinley (lots of Mc names!). And then Guy Gavriel Kay and Charles de Lint and Terry Pratchett. In order of obsession by age.

The Inkheart movie adaptation is actually REALLY GOOD

Yes, shortening an entire novel to a movie results in cuts and changes, but the movie's changes make sense

The characters and plot are intact, just shortened to put a 60-chapter novel into a 1.5 hr movie. They weren't sure if they could secure a film trilogy (and they didn't) so they tweaked the first novel to wrap up nicely. THE AUTHOR GOT HER FACECLAIM CAST AS THE MAIN CHARACTER despite the studio saying he 'wasn't popular enough'. The author was a writer and producer for the film, visited the set multiple times and expressed her happiness at how it was going.

Also Brendan fucking Frasier. Need I say any more?

thinking about inkheart again. like okay the entire premise of your trilogy here is that this guy sends his wife into the fictional world and brings the hot guy (that you, the author, based on your irl husband) into our world in her place. on accident, yeah, but it happens. and then the two guys spend the next 10 years trying to stay away from each other and failing. their lives inseparably intertwined. no matter how much they want to hate each other, they can't.

and in the first book they're forced to work together, and in the second book they're forced apart, and in the third book the one guy literally sells his soul to Death to bring the hot guy back to life, giving him more and hotter magic powers and binding their hearts and minds with an empathic link that transcends all boundaries. like??????
