Dustfinger & Resa (Inkworld series) ✩
â €
losing my mind over the fact that dustfinger never really explains who the barn owl is to meggie and farid, especially because meggie’s first impression of him is that he reminds her a bit of mo and she thinks mo would like him. how would she feel knowing she and dustfinger have similar fathers…that when dustfinger saw books strewn around the folcharts’ house or watched mo stroke a book he probably thought of the barn owl the way meggie thinks of mo in the barn owl’s study, that dustfinger spent ten years missing his dad the way she misses hers now
and farid is so spooked by the barn owl and the infirmary, but think about how he would feel knowing that the barn owl had raised dustfinger, that dustfinger also understands what it’s like to love and be loved by an adoptive father
i like to imagine the barn owl telling them stories about dustfinger’s childhood and awkward teenage years, and dustfinger is so embarrassed until the barn owl mentions some way that farid reminds him of young dustfinger and farid lights up, and really he can’t be upset while watching two of the people he loves most bonding with each other. and meggie—who until this point had not really met dustfinger’s family except for her brief exchange with brianna—begins to more fully understand the extent of what was taken from him while he was trapped in the wrong world
Would they fuck: Dustfinger and Caleb Widogast

Acquired the inkheart audiobook on CD, and it's time to dice back into my first childhood book obsession.
Anyway.
In one of the first chapters, when the trio of Mo, Meggie and Dustfinger arrive at Elinors mansion (+Gwin of course) Mortimer introduces as a "friend".
In the book it's ~ein... Freund von mir~ [a... friend of me.]
In the german audiobook it's ~ein... Freund von mir. [a... friend of me.] With some extra stress on the word friend ala Reiner Strecker.
And like, Elinor mostly doesn't like Dustfinger cause of fire and all. And well, if the husband of my presumed dead niece (nephew in law?) would just bring some weird guy with scars and patched up and probably dirty clothes (as well as a weird horned marten) I would also be a bit suspicious of him. Cause honestly what the hell Mo.
But what I wanted to say, is that by listening to the german audiobook it kinda sounded like Elinor thought Mortimer and Dustfinger are a thing. Which. Yeah. Resa was (is) like her favorite niece or whatever.
"What do you you mean I don't see you for like 10 years, after my niece just dissappeared and now you show up at my house with your daughter, knowing that I don't like children, and some weird homeless looking boyfriend?? Not saying you're not allowed to get over Resa.... But that's a step down. Really. Shame on you for putting shame on my nieces legacy Mortimer."
My boyfriend was sad at the limited supply of Inkheart fanart so this happened lol
