As an artist, I believe that the pursuit of art is about making space for truth, for vulnerability, and for the parts of our history that don’t always get to exist in rooms like this. This ’96/97 @viviennewestwood piece has lived in my mind for years because of how it manifests itself on the body. It holds contradiction in a way that feels honest to me. Intentionally crafted and designed by hand, it carries history, both beautiful and painful. This feels like my personal artist thesis statement. A visual currency for how I’ve learned to walk in my truth as a Black man, making space for my lineage that is rich, strong, and resilient. It’s about presence. It’s about allowing all of these truths to exist at once, & trusting that there is power in being seen fully, without apology. I wear it to honor that fullness. Art.An infinite source of healing.The observation of it.The pursuit of it.The surrender to it.
