Mono-boring

Our characters are recently back in town after a week away, and are going shopping with the money they have earned during their adventures. While checking their inventories our Bard realizes he has one pastry left from the box he bought a week ago.

DM (me): Yeah that is definitely moldy…

Ranger: You should throw it at Bonearm. (That racist guard that keeps giving you trouble.)

Bard: *GASPS* I SHOULD! I’M GONNA GO FIND HIM.

DM: Okay, let me just… *rolls dice for probability of him being close by and for perception* …he’s standing across the Town Square and doesn’t see you.

Ranger: Do I see him? *Rolls perception*

DM: Yup, right across the Square.

Ranger: *starts nudging the Paladin and points out the Bard sneaking up on the guard with pastry in hand*

DM: If you’re going to throw it you need to roll at disadvantage because this is an improvised weapon and it’s moldy and could fall apart.

Bard: I put up my hood on my cloak of Elvenkind so he can’t see me and…19 and an 18! *Party members are already laughing their asses off*

DM: *rolls for a Dex save for Bonearm* …He turns his face towards the sound which makes it miss a little, but you got him in the face and his open mouth.

*Party members are all losing it ooc at this point.*

DM (as Bonearm): WHO THREW THAT?! AUGH IT GOT IN ME MOUTH! *commoners all begin to laugh as does his fellow guardsman* STOP LAUGHING OR I’LL THROW YOU ALL IN JAIL FOR THE NIGHT!

Joe (Fellow guardsman): No you won’t.

Bonearm: One of them assaulted a guard!!

Joe: The way I see it someone missed the trash can throwing away a moldy pastry.

Bonearm: DOES MY FACE LOOK LIKE A GARBAGE CAN?!

Joe: …Do you really want me to answer that question? *Bonearm sputters* Go on, get to the guard tower and clean off yer face.

Depression in concept is not terribly difficult for neurotypical people to accept. Oh, okay, this person is sad a lot. It’s the most “accepted mental illness” simply because the core symptom is something neurotypical people often experience. But what of the other symptoms that people aren’t immediately associating with depression? Because depression can lead to disgust very quickly.

Being unable to maintain hygiene.

Anger, irritability, outbursts.

Being unable to work or study, emotional inertia.

Undereating or overeating.

Being unable to maintain human relationships.

Slowed thought processes, coming off as dumb.

The worst part is that idiots on this site who built this victim complex for themselves and act as though depressed people are somehow privilege pretty much contribute to the stigma against us. It’s hard to get help and find sympathy when most people still view depression as “being sad more often than others”.

Ironically the people who whine neurotypicals going easy on depressed people because we don’t have ugly symptoms are pretty much no better, because you’re literally ignoring our uglier symptoms and making it harder for us to get any accommodation or help.
