Iâve been watching the Pitt recently (UK so only 7 episodes of season 2 so far) and Iâve found it really interesting watching how Ogilvie has been received online.
People HATE this guy.
And Iâm not disagreeing I think he has a lot of negative traits that make him an unlikeable character.
BUT a lot of those traits come from him being a very neurodivergent coded character (Iâd say autistic but itâs open to interpretation).
For example, the way he tells Whitaker about Louieâs death is very abrasive and cold, he doesnât seem to understand why this death might be a shock or be painful to anyone because from his perspective itâs a logical progression of events - thatâs a very autistic perspective.
And Iâm definitely not excusing that because he will need to learn how to be more empathetic, not only because he wants to be a doctor but also just as a human being.
I just find it interesting that his very obvious (imo) neurodivergent traits are ignored because heâs not a palatable character.
Itâs a classic staple of fandom culture to only pay attention to characters who are âdifferentâ (e.g. neurodiverse, drug addicts etc.) if the character is otherwise palatable or the âdifferenceâ is in a way that the viewers find endearing.
I feel like a lot of people are talking about how you need to understand the complexities of characters like Robby, Santos, and Langdon but Ogilvie is treated in a very black and white way.
Iâm not saying people have to like him itâs just something Iâve been thinking about.
Just found out Taylor Dearden (Mel on The Pitt) thinks sheâs aroace.
Made my year.
(Okay Iâve done some digging since posting this and actually Taylor was talking about Mel as a character but Iâm still thrilled that aroace spec characters are being thought about)

I think those lines will genuinely haunt me.
Because although my situation is nothing like hers, I want a child so badly it hurts and Iâve spent the last couple of years trying to reconcile with the fact that I probably wonât ever have one.
And Iâve picked a future profession where I can spend time with children that wonât ever be mine.
Just so I can get close to it.
