this is simply a side blog for the fuckass show of hazbin hotel. im @/moltenknife but you can simply refer to me as phloats; i go by gender neutral terms or masculine if you’re feeling funny; i am a normal, functional individual (<- trustworthy statement)

some quick facts about me and this blog:

my favorite character is unfortunately the fuckass tv (vox) and alastor as a close second. I think vox and alastor are incredibly interesting as characters in addition to being batshit insane which make for a lovely character dynamic, resulting in my posts being obnoxiously all about them (besides them I also love rosie and think lute is cool :))

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

I relate to Vox in a lot of aspects but I’d say his loquacity. It’s a pretty obvious thing considering. well. this entire blog but I do love to ramble, though I like to think I do so in a more polite manner than Vox

15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)

well I mean. quite literally more than half of the posts I’ve made on this account are about radiostatic. but if we’re counting non-radiostatic I think staticrose? rosestatic (rosie x vox)? is a fun dynamic. I prefer platonic but it also doesn’t really matter to me, I think it’s just interesting to imagine them interact. rosie is already an extremely mysterious character on her own and I’d love to have someone like Vox, whose whole shtick is that he knows everything about everyone, be forced to investigate her. and rosie monitors him all the same. so it’s just this whole game of chess outfitted in social manners with both of them trying to gain intel on the other. it’s fun, it’s good; also i like both of the characters a lot so this is basically just me throwing my barbie dolls together :) also honorable mention to platonic staticbelle; very fun dynamic, especially when you consider their thematic parallels

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

I don’t really hold a lot of hazbin hotel ships in contempt because I simply just don’t have the time nor mental bandwidth for that, but if I had to pick I’d say staticdust. I don’t despise it per se, but it’s just not my cup of tea nor a dynamic I would really enjoy/explore

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

his dynamic with Lucifer. It doesn’t count necessarily as a relationship, but the entire segment of vox populi is so unbelievably admirable. Say anything you want about Vox but you have to have a modicum of respect for a man who publicly intimidated, mocked, and verbally destroyed the highest authority of hell in front of live television.

23. Favorite picture of this character?

This photo haunted me for weeks when I first found it. local ceo over here. local serial killer and cult leader over here. man who declared war on heaven and actively enjoys torturing, murdering, and subjugating his peers btw. LIKE??? it’s one of the most rare earnest Vox expressions we have where he is? so weirdly nervous??? he looks like a child receiving praise for a perfect report card. he’s like a middle schooler peeking out from the curtains at his school play in a coming-of-age film. It’s such a raw expression.

also this one. honorary mention to this one. I love the confirmation that he canonically likes to dramatically sprawl out in a chair and brood in the dark. manspreadin’ while I think about my failures in my room. also a bonus point for the unique Vox expression and how authentic it is, similar reason to the last one

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

I didn’t particularly hold any interest in hazbin hotel when the first season came out so I initially thought of Vox as the “weird TV freak”. unfortunately for my brain season two released and I got hit with the brainworms. he’s still a weird TV freak but now hes way more interesting to me and has been in my head for a solid five months :)) now i just perceive him as the weird evil bug who i must study

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Silent Hill. I think the idea of being thrown into a familiar place that’s now been demented with horrors that mimic your deepest fears is an interesting idea for any character, but it would be very fun with Alastor specifically because of how he ignores his issues. I also just really love the idea of throwing Alastor into a horror game where he’s forced to grapple with the idea that “oh. oh I’m actually scared. I could actually die here” and have to struggle through the vulnerability that he’s been trying to avoid for all of his life

thank you for the ask! do keep in mind that a lot of these answers are probably going to be radiostatic-centric because. well. this is the Radiostatic Blog but just heed the warning. this is also likely going to be very long so apologies for that

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

HE SCRATCHES THE BRAIN !!! he is an evil tapeworm in my mind that terrorizes my thoughts with his wonderful character. he’s so fascinating to me. I am going to hinge my self-worth on my likability and the amount of validation i garner from the public around me and become so reliant on this external approval that i develop my own cult around the idea of my godhood, mold into the people’s deified image of me for validation, become unable to differentiate my actual personhood from the abstract idea of Vincent Whittman, and attempt to nuke a city over the one man who rejected me at my most vulnerable. and there’s also murder and fun showbiz aesthetics to work with and whatever. like his character concept might as well be a cheese trap for me. I <3 deified and dehumanized characters. also he’s very fun to draw so that’s a plus

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

oof that’s hard. I haven’t seen anyone bring this up but I do really love the choice of giving vox two different genres when it came to songs in the show: a sort of broadway-esque showtune for the public’s appeasement, and electronic/rock (do keep in mind im don’t know my genres very well, this is just what I’ve read on line and deduced from my own judgement). I just find it really fun how Vox’s own personal genre is so much more modern than when he’s performing for a public when you would really think the opposite of it (taken from brighter), or maybe it’s emphasizing the idea that he’s digging himself further into a pit for validation and using electronic music as a reference to his trend-chasing and whole “modern” look. I don’t know, I think it’s a cool detail + I love rock AND showtune so I basically win :)

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

love the fandom tendency to just dress this guy up in whatever they please. I’ve seen Vox in a myriad of outfits and it’s been great

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

‘Despise’ is definitely a strong word; this particular thing is more of a bit of a peeve for me: the idea of Vox changing his name after the deal. I don’t know man, when Alastor calls Vox “Vincent” during the flashback I take it more as a sardonic barb than anything. I think it stings so much more if Vox had changed his name upon entering into hell, and then had become comfortable enough with Alastor that he entrusted him with the secret of his birth name. It just strengthens the tragedy of Vox’s offer and how earnest he was being with Alastor, only to have his authentic self rejected and be mocked with his human name. I see why people would say otherwise and I’d be happy to be convinced of such, but I’d like to see the “Vox changing his name before the deal” headcanon explored more :p

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

you have two men who are absolutely and unequivocally vile, who mercilessly kill for their own personal gain or even just enjoyment, who torture and maim and commit unspeakable acts of cruelty just for their ideals. they're just straight up evil and won't hesitate to express that to everyone around them, and yet. and Yet.

they're found drinking at bars together. they joke and laugh and talk for hours into the night. hell, they dance together when they don't think anyone's watching. one could look at them, these two callous beasts, these supposed unfeeling murderers who have never cared about anyone but themselves, and maybe, just maybe, call them friends. just maybe, say they care for each other, no matter how minutely. and maybe, just maybe! say in whatever fashion, in whatever form, in whatever sick and selfish way possible, they love each other.
