I love it how normally in YA books when there is a siblings duo (brother & sister) and the sister is dating the (best) friend of the brother they are always so shy and the bf is just like "I swear I treat her right" and the brother is so overprotective, meanwhile in AE Tyler looks on the first possible occasion straight into Kal's face and says "your sister was hell of a woman" and when Kal realised what happened between both of them he just goes like: "1.good choice of both of u and 2. That means Tyler will OFFICIALLY be my brother now :D"

Or Tyler with Scarlett. He's just like, "Oh. These poor boys".

modern au where everyone’s afraid of the big bad dangerous gang the crows but then someone looks in the crows’ hideout just to see Dirtyhands bickering with the Corpsewitch about bananas or some random shit. the Wraith is balancing on the Sharpshooter’s shoulders whilst the Chemist chucks m&ms at the Sharpshooter and he tries to catch them in his mouth without dislodging the Wraith. the Fjerdan is in the corner with several pigeons and a duck he’d befriended outside. rasputin is absolutely blasting from a speaker somewhere. they have a human-sized cardboard cutout of the rat from ratatouille leaning against a wall. they have polaroids of all of them taped to the walls next to their arrest records and wanted posters. three different incense candles are burning at the same time. the only items in the fridge are a half-drunken jug of orange juice and a handful of avocados. the Wraith is now making friendship bracelets with the Corpsewitch while the Sharpshooter and the Chemist make out on the couch. these terrifying criminals are just fucking teenagers and they’re funny as hell.

I love how, at his core, Matthias is the most golden retriever to ever golden retriever. He's gentle, kind, deeply empathetic, surprisingly perceptive, has such a big heart and such a softboi nature. But when he needs to assure support, he does so with th utmost loyalty and strength. The rough and angry version of him in the beginning of the duology was the result of years of taught prejudice, but that's not who Matthias is.

Matthias is the boy who tamed the wild wolf. Matthias is the boy who understood Kaz's deep-seated desire for vengeance, Matthias stopped Kaz and Jesper from fighting, Matthias helped Nina when she was vomiting and craving parem, Matthias handled Alys Van Eck with the most maturity, Matthias assured his crewmates when they felt down, and Matthias tried to guide a boy to peace and light while he held a gun to his chest.

i had a person in my comments telling me matthias was evil and a nazi and stuff and like no… he was a child…

he was taught for a large chunk of his life that prejudice, and then he changed. he worked to make himself better. he is not the rough angry version in the beginning of the duology. he is a victim of a trusted adult’s systematic manipulation of a child.

even when he was a part of the druskelle, nina was able to see that he was actively fighting against himself to fit in with them. he was forcing himself to be meaner and rougher and less empathetic, because he thought that was who he was supposed to be.

it should also be noted that the druskelle- more specifically, their leader- found him in such an intensely fragile and vulnerable state in his life. grisha inferni had set fire to and killed his entire village, including his mother and father and baby sister. the druskelle gave him somewhere to funnel his grief and turn it into hate for the people who took his childhood away. i am in no way saying that what he did was right, or even acceptable, but it is understandable.

there are thousands of characters who were “evil” and then realized the error of their ways and changed to be better, and they’re all seen as heroes. literally like half of the avengers, or the entire descendants franchise, or every male love interest in a young adult romantasy series have had the same character arc as matthias did. so why can’t matthias be given the same grace?

he was a child. he was manipulated by an entire society. he was a victim.
