the online identity and gimmick-ifying of autism is so odd. I'm diagnosed with autism and yet I barely identify with any stuff I see about it anymore. It feels like autism is being rebranded as the Silly Guy Disorder that gives you smart and beautiful hyperspecific interests. it's not that I mind silly jokes or being lighthearted about being autistic- but when the entire social movement is based around marketing us this way, I just can't help but feel isolated from it. it feels like I'm not the right kind of autistic. I'm not marketable and digestible to common audiences, and therefore I am discarded by the movement in the name of progress and acceptance. it feels foul.

i increasingly wish that there was just like an alternate algorithm for tiktok etc. bc i dont really have a Problem with something being short-form or vertical, there are certain kinds of storytelling suited to the format that couldn’t live anywhere else. The Algorithm is the evil here by rewarding attention-grabbiness and various types of bait.

like, vine was pretty similar but it was curated by reshares (i think?) which caused iconic memes and made clout usually meaningless (more like tumblr ha). and i feel a lot more sane even watching tiktok compilations instead bc i made an actual choice to watch it and it also has an ending point when i move on. i also enjoy seeing them on pinterest bc you decide what to watch from a related selection so it encourages ending up down a different rabbit hole each time.

ideal situation is just alternate site that embeds youtube shorts and lets you choose your preferred way to watch them tbh. sadly i have not the resourced nor know-how nor public sway to make that a thing. maybe we should just all make sideblogs posting links for eachother

when i was a kid, we had this variety of bleeding heart plant growing in our yard:

i thought they looked like translucent fairies wearing poofy pants. i was recently reminded of this & wanted to make a translucent fairy in poofy pants.

i love how the transparent parts turned out and absolutely want to experiment more with this technique. i printed the inner skeletal parts as normal, and then printed a one-walled shell with no infill out of transparent filament. i cut the shell open in the back and slid the skeleton inside. the outer layer of the head doesn't have eyes sockets, which makes the eyes hazy.

for the head & back frills i printed a one-layer sheet out of the same filament, cut the shapes out of that, and bent it into shape using a heat gun and hot glue.
