Hi, Eugenia. Can you give an explanation about prepositions; в, на, под, к, etc? I'm quite confused sometimes, especially with к
Спасибо!!!😁
Hi! When it comes to prepositions and other “service” words, it is very hard to define their specific meaning and usage rules. This is true for any language, I guess. I hate to say that to my students, but it’ll come to you with practice.
в - generally means in, into, a movement inside something. That something could be a period of time: в понедельник, в сентябре etc.
на - on; the difference between в and на is similar (but not identical) to “in” and “on”.
под - means under.
к - to, approaching a subject. К дому - towards the house; к обеду - towards the lunch time.
Probably, these pictures could help:

gonna go ahead and say i don’t really conceptually understand what it means for a vector space to be squared
actually, @the-real-numbers aren’t differential operators exactly your field? could you please explain the laplace operator in simple terms for me?
The down triangle is a vector containing the partial derivative operator for each dimension. For example:
∇f(x,y,z) = ‹∂f/∂x, ∂f/∂y, ∂f/∂z›
The superscript denotes the order of the partial derivative. ∇^2, or the “vector containing the second partials”, is also written as ∆. It’s important to note that technically,
∇^2=∇•∇= ∆
So as a consequence, the laplacian is a dot/inner product, which makes it a sum:
∆f(x,y,z) = (∂^2 f /∂x^2) + (∂^2 f /∂y^2) + (∂^2 f /∂z^2)
Aah, operators.
Isn’t this the Schrödinger equation (time dependent, in 3D)?
Today Cam disappeared from the lab for about two hours (holding with his computer and saying “I HAVE TO GO MAKE SOMETHING” as he left), spent the entire TA meeting on his computer, and finally came back in the lab at like 130p laughing and showing everybody this. I NEEDED TO SHARE.
Also: this is legit the way Cam speaks in his everyday life. I wish you could all read it in his voice.

Classifying the geometry of snowflakes highlights their beauty and diversity
As snowflakes gently meander past your living room window this winter, take a break from your hot cocoa and consider nature’s ice-cold architecture. When water molecules chill down, they assemble into a myriad of spectacular shapes from simple hexagons to star-shaped dendrites. Inspect these frozen fractals and you’ll find a recurring theme: the number six. Six sides, six edges, six branches — ice crystals seem six obsessed.

annoying language thing: voice-over in a documentary over a language you understand, IN a language you understand. Please choose a language for me, my brain can’t choose when being confronted with two at the same time. And I end up not understanding any of it…
also hearing a voice over and realising that it doesn’t quite translate the essence of what the person was actually saying…
uGH YES it’s weirdly infuriating
science dudes who need to validate their own intelligence by lecturing you about something trivial are literally the most boring humans and they rarely contribute as much as they think they do
Hey there, my Russian learning friends! As I see y’all have struggles with finding russian sub and dub. So here’s my msterpost of websites where you can find smth you need.
Russian dub: Its a list of sites where you can find Russian Tv Shows/ foreign ones with Russian dub
http://seasonvar.ru/ - thid one is №1 for me when it comes to russian dub. Tho I am afraid you would need a VPN to watch smth, depends on where u live.
http://gidonline.in/ - good when it comes to movies.
http://kinogo-2018.net/ - also a good website.
http://fanserials.cc/ - good one, but sometimes works too slow.
Russian subtitles to English TV Shows and movies
http://seasonvar.ru/ - same as in the first list
http://fanserials.cc/ - good one, but again, sloooow.
http://subs.com.ru/list.php?c=rus - a huge list of russian subs, if you search, maybe can find even subs to Russian dub.
Russian subtitles to Russian TV Shows/ Movies: a lot of the websites are actually made for deaf people, so decision is on you.
http://subtitry.ru/ - good one exactly for russ sub to russ dub
websites for deaf poeple:
https://spbvog.ru/subtitry
https://badcinema.ru/deaf/
http://subfilms.net/deaf-films/
https://deaf.city/
http://megogo.net/ru/deaf
http://subfilms.net/
http://kinozal-subtitry.blogspot.com/
I hope I helped you guys, feel free to add if you know good websites too 💙
Just as the phrase “what the entire fuck” implies the existence of fractional fucks, the phrase “what the absolute fuck” implies the existence of both positive and negative fucks (or else there would be no need for an absolute value operation). Taken together with the phrase “what the actual fuck” (which implies the existence of imaginary fucks), we may thus conclude that fuckery is isomorphic with the complex field.
Technically, we can only conclude that “a fuck” is an element of some norm space over a field containing fractional values; the space being isomorphic to ℂ is a substantially stronger claim.
If anyone ever said “what the rational fuck” we would have a stronger basis for ℂ, as that would imply some irrational fucks. We could then generously assume completeness and thus a Banach space that is at least a subset of ℂ. However, no mention has also been made of whether this is a bounded space (”what the finite fuck?” could be taken as implication of infinite fucks on at least some axis), so there are many unexplored areas of research in fuck-topology.
What the mathematical fuck did I just read?

When people go off about how English is the worst language, I just wanna point out a few things:
- Our future tense requires only one word (looking at you, Spanish)
- Words don’t change meanings depending on tone (Cantonese)
- We don’t live in some bizarre Beauty And The Beast world where we give inanimate objects genders (romance languages, German)
- Likewise, we don’t have have two different words for “they” because we don’t care whether “they” were male or female (Spanish, French)
- There’s no formal “you” because we don’t play mind games about whether or not we respect you (Spanish, German)
- We don’t alter the whole fucking language based on how much we respect you (Japanese)
- The letters and sounds might not be consistent, but at least we have letters, not just pictures (Mandarin)
- We don’t have a fucking stupid tense specifically for talking to two people because some idiot decided that a two-person tense was necessary (Arabic)
So yeah, I think we’re doing okay as a language
Oh and some of our plurals are irregular, but at least it’s not like every goddamn plural is an entirely new word so you have to learn every word twice
At least it’s not like that, right? Right, Arabic? WHAT A DUMB IDEA THAT WOULD BE, HUH, ARABIC?
But we do kinda have the tone thing. Like record and record, resume and resume, etc
For a few words, but you can mispronounce a lot and still get away with it. I’m referring to this:
