The Pnf fandom is actually the cutest place on the internet. Like. Please tell me why I spent the past few days reading phineas and ferb fan fiction (phinbella no less) at…holding my breath as I type this…30 years old?!? When I read the same type of fics 15+ years ago? And wrote my own + drew fan art back in ye olde 2010?
It’s so cool to see something I loved so dearly coming back in full swing, and the new people who are part of it now. And how much they LOVE IT, proudly and fearlessly. It’s a unique lil corner of the internet, one so separate from my everyday life.
Gonna get a bit #personal below so adding a read more.
I’m working with my therapist on caring less of what others think. It’s strange; you’d think by a certain point, caring what people think would be old hat. Something high school Hay did to “fit in” when she had her people the whole time. And actually, publicly admitting how much I ADORE Phineas and Ferb and its fandom is still something I am grappling with, since I still fear what people think. “People” as in, coworkers. As in professional connections. It’s why I love scrolling PNF Twitter, but won’t engage personally unless I create an alias account.
Imagine though if I could freely speak how much these characters mean to me. Why I am a shipper through and through. This is the show that keeps imaginations running wild, dreams changing form. It’s inspired me to be a better friend, a better partner, a better creator.
I think I’m writing it all here to admit what’s been holding me back from engaging fully, and hold myself accountable. I spent the other day drafting a Phinbella fanfiction, and I’d love to continue working on it. I’d love to meet the other people in the community and just THEORIZE with them and gush about this insanely smart, funny, wonderful little piece of media we’ve grown so fond of. I literally did a play back in 2015 with Aaron Jacob, who worked on the show and did some of its most memorable songs… I was star struck when I found out who he was. Like. What a cool job! What a cool life!
A life I’m building right now, as a creator, a writer, an actor, a singer, a filmmaker.
The people in this fandom are SO creative. They’re the artists of today, the storytellers of tomorrow. How cool is it that we’re seeing each others work here on Tumblr?
Ha, I’m rambling a bit. It feels good to use Tumblr as originally intended: a blog. A public diary. And a way to finally share why this show is so special to me.
