It frustrates me to no end when people buy cheap crochet. Crochet is not cheap. If you are buying cheap crochet, you are ripping off a real person. You are promoting underpaying people, or not paying people at all. That’s if the item is actually crochet, anyway. Most of the time, it’s a machine-knit product that is supposed to look like crochet.

Machines cannot replicate real crochet. It is literally impossible for a machine in this day and age to crochet because of the way the stitches are created and connected. “Machine-made crochet” is just a knitting technique that looks like crochet. If you’ve bought real crochet for $10, you are contributing to abusing workers. That’s just the fact.

If you cannot afford full-price crochet, you cannot afford crochet, full stop. It’s unfortunate, yes, but handmade items are a luxury. Art is a luxury. If you can’t afford it, make it yourself or save up until you can. You are not inherently owed art. You are not entitled to it. Artists are not going to lower their prices just because you cannot afford it.

Stop ripping artists off. This is pissing me the fuck off. Shein, Temu, AliExpress, etc etc are either faking their “crochet” products, or underpaying or not paying their workers for real crochet. That’s on top of the child labour and horrific working conditions.

Support small businesses if you can afford it. Watch YouTube until you can crochet yourself if you can’t afford it.
