Last night, I had the best dream I've ever had, full stop. No question.
... I'm not 100% sure what the context to this scenario was - maybe it was a TLSP new album/tour, or Miles Kane's band and AM or just Alex... but the dream started like this:
I was watching (live!) a performance (from a balcony, i think). Miles was on stage playing his heart out, as per. The lighting was red, but with lots of darkness left, very moody, almost a deep pastel magenta, with a smoky haze.
Next, Alex arrives on stage, surprising Miles by taking up a stance on the opposite side of the mic (e.g. not their usual 'same side of the mic facing each-other'. Alex was facing me, while for some reason Mi was facing away from me [I must've had VIP seats ;o best dream ever!]
So there's a bit of distance between them, and somehow that felt very meaningful. Like Alex was letting him and everyone else see what was there. He was staring directly into Miles' eyes with quietly joyous love and sincere devotion. This lasted a while. Finally, he sorta starts mouthing something, which I had the vibe of "I love you, I'm yours, it's the real deal, baby, you and me always".
I can't say I remember Miles' exact reaction, but it was something like melting, giggling, trying in vain to continue the music, and, maybe when the song ended, he put his right hand (pick hand) up to Alex's cheek and caressed it in a very tender and heartfelt way... My dream is a milex fanfic, essentially. And I LOVED it. I woke up and immediately told my partner all about it. He is beyond sick of hearing about anything milex-related, but I didn't care, I was elated for them (hehe).
And, that was not even the best bit! whaaa aaaa ?!?
A little while later (my dreams have sharp cuts between scenes - am I alone?).... Alex is on stage now with mic (sans stand) and singing a NEW song which I "listened to" in its entirety, and I absolutely LOVED it at first listen.
It had a very specific vibe/influence, and I'm dying a little that I can't remember it all. I do remember thinking "oh, yes, of course this is the direction they were heading this whole time! It seemed so obvious. I'm not sure, but it could have been some sort of cabaret adjacent style... some sort of indie-fied version of cabaret. That doesn't quite feel right, but it was something unexpected, but it just worked.
I also recall clearly that the outtro was Alex screaming with abandon, repeatedly for a good few minutes. I wasn't thinking about what it was like at the time - it was just electric and distilled-Alex coming through the speakers. But to describe it, I'd have to say throw in some punk, the end of "Letting Go" by Angie McMahon "it's ok make mistakes", Coup De Gras, John Congleton / The paper chase stuff, and also like "There's a bomb in my car" a la Geese. And yet it was still just something new and incredible.
For anyone interested he was wearing black pants with white shirt and shiny shoes combo *shrugs* and absolutely stalking the stage, all 2016-esque, but just 10+ years older and all the more lovable for it. He seemed so free and happy and wild. I was unable to tear my eyes away from him. Unfortunately, I only have foggy image of Miles with maybe brown leather jacket (with the fur collar perhaps?), besides his goofy grin, sparkling eyes, and beautiful hands stroking Alex's cheek lovingly, right in front of everyone.
It was incredible. Thank god for this little group of us weirdos who might appreciate this crazy dream for all it is worth. Without you, I'd be in a frustrated hole, just trying to hold onto fragments as they faded into the nothingness. However, because of you (and not least the host of this tumblr page - you know I love you to the moon and back), I've taken half an hour to type out what I do remember and I'm so glad of it.

alternate realities sneak up on the sly, don't they?
When I was young, I believed that dreams featuring other people were shared experiences. Like, if I saw a person in a dream, they would see me in theirs, but from their own perspective. In my hopeful, mystical brain, dream Alex and dream Miles felt it too.
Maybe Alex woke up with a new melody percolating. And maybe Miles sent Alex an overdue text. And maybe, just maybe, we'll get another tlsp and get to bask in it with our people someday.
It's honestly why I keep dreaming, Thank you for sharing this beautiful dream with us.
