For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.
It deeply saddens me that "pdf file" has become slang for pedo. Don't you dare disrespect my wife the beautiful portable document format ever again
and to the children in the notes saying we need this fucking baby talk to get around censorship online; there's been no credible evidence that any site other that YouTube (which will only demonetize your video, ftr) will actually censor or hide content that include words like rape, pedophile, gun, terrorist, etc. etc. and even if we take as a given they were (which, again, they are not), do not fucking comply in advance, you absolute fucking coward. and ESPECIALLY do not comply by altering your real life fucking vocabulary. don't let the technocrats dictate what words you say holy fucking shit dude!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey everyone "I" have something to show "you"

I hope you're having a good New Year's Eve.
New Year's Eve was a special time for me, made so by the efforts of my grandmother. I wrote about how we used to spend the evening together in Lucky Child chapter 74, "Red vs White."
I love the New Year's Eve chapters of the story. I'm reflecting on them and my grandmother tonight. My wish for all of you is to drink some sparkling cider or champagne, sing "Auld Lang Syne," be safe, and hug your loved ones as we enter 2026.
I enter the year a little lonelier. But fireworks are going off in the street outside my window, and memories keep me warm.
I’m LITERALLY going insane
Listening to 'War' by Outkast and checked the origin for the "You're gonna die here" sample and it's an old dubbed kung fu film. I love hip-hop production man.
Up there with Three 6 Mafia consistently just sampling from the schlockiest, "only 5 people saw this" movies from the 80s and 90s like Judgement Night (for 'Judgement Nite') and Warlock: The Armageddon (for 'Fuckin Wit Dis Click).
Feel like there's a whole treasure trove of random movie line samples (Death Around the Corner by 2pac sampling American Me is another example that just came to my head) and it seems like a distinctly 90s hip-hop thing? I think since hip-hop moved away from sampling as production software became more widely available, some of these little quirks are somewhat under appreciated.
Oh yeah kung fu/karate/martial arts movies were a huge influence on 90s/early 2000s rap and hip hop (even some rnb too). It was big thing for a lot of Gen X and older millennial rappers because for impoverished black american youth who grew up in the 70s and 80s, some of the only accessible media they had starring people of color in non subservient roles other than blaxploitation films were martial arts films that would be either broadcasted on television or shown at the penny theater. Kaiju films received some of this treatment too as we seen with the infamous sample of Godzilla's original theme in Pharaoh Monch's Simon Says. Like I mentioned previously rnb of this era got this treatment too. Missy Elliot (a lot people forget she's a producer as well as a rapper) and Timbaland loved taking samples from old historical Chinese and Indian movies. Tell Me by Bobby Valentino iconic beat was thanks to a sample of the song Yearning For Peace from the soundtrack of the 2002 Chinese historical action film Hero. Tokusatsu and anime in the 90s and onward has kind of taken up that mantle in terms of influence on millennial and millennial rappers for the same reason (hence the many many references to Dragon Ball (Z), Naruto, Pokemon, Yugioh, etc.). Dare I say eastern media has had as much of an influence on modern black American culture as like, basketball and jazz.
Black and Asian communities were forced to either live nearby each other, or Asian immigrants were forced to live in the predominantly Black areas as of means to prevent us from owning businesses(Bronzeville turning into Little Tokyo etc etc). Not that Asian communities did this purposely, especially when they came in with PhDs. But white people just didnt want to give them such jobs, and instead forced them to become managers at convincence stores they studied for as well as not allow Black people owning any of their own businesses. Nevertheless, this stuff did create hostile tension between us. Still does in some areas.
With that said, that also brought in times where our cultures would essentially collaborate to fight against a common enemy. Similar with our dance and rap battles, there was this sense of admiration for fighting, without the use of guns. Guns were very final, too many lives are easily taken away through it. So rap and dance battles became the less violent and safer alternative, but we still needed a way to defend ourselves from violence period
Lots of Black people wanted to learn martial arts to defend themselves from gangs, but also from law enforcement and colonizers. Which is another thing these martial arts movies tackled. They tend to involve characters that are fighting against, or even defending themselves from military, law enforcement, or gangs that threaten their community. It's another connection these two communities shared
So with so many martial arts masters and teachers now in the US, Black people had access to learn and become masters themselves
Wanted to also point out that martial arts was more than showing people through punches and kicks. There was an element of how one should always be smart in any combative situation. Which when it comes to rap or dance battles, you have to be clever about it. Come up with a strategy. Which I think martial artists overall worldwide reach this same point of understanding
Muhammad Ali's "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" statement after his fight against Sonny Liston in 1964 shares similar elements of Bruce Lee's "Be like water" statement for a reason
depression tips™
shower. not a bath, a shower. use water as hot or cold as u like. u dont even need to wash. just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. sit on the floor if you gotta.
moisturize everything. use whatever lotion u like. unscented? dollar store lotion? fancy ass 48 hour lotion that makes u smell like a field of wildflowers? use whatever you want, and use it all over.
put on clean, comfortable clothes.
put on ur favorite underwear. cute black lacy panties? those ridiculous boxers u bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the butt? put em on.
drink cold water. use ice. if u want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.
clean something. doesn’t have to be anything big. organize one drawer of ur desk. wash five dirty dishes. do a load of laundry. scrub the bathroom sink.
blast music. listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.
make food. don’t just grab a granola bar to munch. take the time and make food. even if it’s ramen. add something special to it, like a hard boiled egg or some veggies. prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.
make something. write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. even if you don’t think you’re good at it.
go outside. take a walk. sit in the grass. look at the clouds. smell flowers. put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.
call someone. call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. talk to a stranger on the street. have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. if you can’t, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. even if you don’t say much, listen to them.
cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them. take pictures of them. talk to them. tell them how u feel, about your favorite movie, a new game coming out.
Circulating. Seasonal depression is creeping around now.

a few years ago it was “hehe haha what the fuck even is digital blackface why are yall so mad” now they’re using AI to make fake videos of angry black women trying to use their EBT cards in places that don’t accept it
update 11/1 - 🙃🙃🙃
the term digital blackface is believed to have been first coined by Joshua Lumpkin Green in 2006 and popularized by Lauren Michele Jackson in 2017. conversations around the evolution of minstrelsy, which always has been and always will be a tool of inciting antiblack violence, have been ongoing for decades. imagine if yall took this shit seriously back then instead of laughing it off as implausible like yall always do. people could very well lose their lives over this. but hehe haha terms like digital blackface and misogynoir just sounded too silly to be real right?

In every speech, Netanyahu justifies his crimes by saying he is fighting Hamas. I want to tell him that in 1948, when Israel killed my grandfather, Hamas did not even exist.
Netanyahu speaking today, repeating the same false excuse to cover the same ongoing crimes.
Because of this criminal, I lost my sister’s child to famine, I lost half of my family to bombing, and my mother and father were injured while trying to get food. Please, donate to my family if you can, share widely, and speak about us so we are not forgotten.

Making a flat/wide/bulbous nose appreciation post because those big nose posts never include them:
a bit annoyed bc ppl are being obtuse in tags and comments
the reason i made this and the reason this feature is rarely seen in nose appreciation posts is because wide and flat noses are something that is mostly associated with people of color, Black people especially
these types of noses are rarely spoken of as elegant or referred to in poetic ways. and i don't think i really have to spell the reason out!!! i just said it
i didn't want to be ~annoying and say that bc ppl will probably see it as a guilt trip, bc this is how this webbed site is and i wanted the post to be positive !!!
but the responses are irritating me
since we're talking lately about how unbearably white tumblr is, its showing in the responses to this lol
Between us, there is nothing but endless taking
