When it comes to cults, most people feel sympathy towards the people in it, as they're considered to have been brainwashed into it (taking an example from the way people talk about Scientology and its victims)

So when I see someone call Christianity a cult while actively harassing Christians, I already know it's just an excuse for their horrendous behaviour

I hate how this post doesn't actually defend the case that Christianity is not a cult and is just shitting on people that are not Christians. Very love thy neighbor of you.

I have spoken to many atheists, many, including me, who have religious trauma and a common thing was the cult-like thinking of the places of worship we grew up in. You obviously had the luxury of willingly choosing to become a Christian. I didn't. I didn't have a choice. Many didn't. I remember one time vividly when I was in primary school, I was in the bathroom and suddenly my mind said I hate God and I was suddenly crying and sobbing and praying for God to forgive me, thinking something bad would happen to me or my family, that I was now Satan's child. I was seven years old. SEVEN.

And about your comment on "Scientology and its victims". Yeah, um, I don't know if we read the same bible but I remember a distinct passage. I think it went...oh, it's on the tip of my tongue...oh right: LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF and oh, don't forget the thousands of scriptures that tell you NOT TO JUDGE OTHER PEOPLE. Christians love to bash on other religions but when it comes to them? Suddenly, they are God's perfect little angels who 'j-just want to spread the g-gospel'!

"They just hate Christianity" I've noticed this is Christians' way of sticking their hands in their ears and loudly singing "la la la la" when someone brings up the critiques, generational indoctrination, dogma and systemic issues of your religion. Even your HISTORY is messed up, there's lowk nothing y'all haven't done at this point.

as somebody that is a hindu but is probably borderline athiest just practising hindu rituals and living a fucked up lie, if somebody told me that they were hindu or converting to hinduism, i would say "cool! i am hindu too :)" AND MOVE ON

That's why church leaders are so manipulative. They know what language to use. All they have to do is to make them feel so very special in sky daddy's eyes and suddenly they are giving away their rent money as tithes.

sorry if this came off wrong. as a theist agnostic (meaning I believe there is a god but as humans we aren't gonna be able to fully understand/comprehend it) I doubt god is as simple as "have control over everything and give good people good thing" but rather more complicated. maybe god is just the creator of the universe and nothing else. or maybe god controls where human souls go after death and nothing else. maybe god creates human souls and nothing else. maybe god is all powerful and just is a fucking douchebag. I don't think we'll ever know or be able to know. I think religion as a whole puts the concept of higher power into extremely linear boxes. and the place I go to respects my beliefs and is moreso about the community rather than the worship.
