The US political system is rigidly divided into two camps, and to mobilize voters, both parties use radicalization and image of the enemy. It's beneficial for the media on the left to fan hatred of "white men", and for the right to fan hatred of "radical leftists." This is pure marketing.
Here are some modern American academics and intellectuals who criticize the current left/liberal movement:
Mark Lilla. The Once and Future Liberal, 2017:
The author coined the term "difference liberalism" - instead of talking about civic unity ("we, the people"), the left has divided society into oppressed and oppressors and engaged in self-exploration of privileges, handing over the general agenda to the right-wing populists and fueling the mirror hatred of the right.
Glenn Loury, John McWhorter:
These are the academic black critics of the "identitarian weapon", who believe that modern antiracism has become a "third religion," where "whiteness" is the original sin, and "awakening" is the absolution. The left-wing elites have abandoned classic struggle for equal rights (against barriers), and moved on to the struggle for equality of results, which requires a constant search for enemies and cancel culture.
Leftist activists use identity as "weapon of the weak" to gain power in victimhood culture. Instead of fostering resilience, elites encourage students to see any offense as "microaggression," dividing the world into the oppressors and the oppressed. This "tribalism" is good for mobilizing through hatred, but it is disastrous for democracy, as it excludes the common values.

All of the listed authors (except perhaps Pinker) are not right-wing conservatives. They stand for equality, but against the form of this struggle. Their general idea is that a zero-sum policy based on fanning hatred against broad groups is an electoral marketing to mobilize a narrow base, but is suicidal to build broad coalitions necessary for real reforms. As a result, right-wing populists win, and oppressed groups remain permanent victims.
