The disrespect for games as an art form is genuinely insane. An older person will hear that a new movie is adapted from a book they’ve never heard of and it’s fine, but when a new movie is adapted from a game they’ve also never heard of, suddenly it’s not respectable. They think games are completely made by the computer without any human input whatsoever and they refuse to believe otherwise. A video game’s ost could contain more emotion and passion than the average pop album, it could have leagues better writing than the average movie, actors, direction, everything, but it will still not be considered worth anyone’s time by general public. They go crazy for interactive “choose-your-story” books, movies, and tv shows, but demean the most interactive art form ever created. I don’t mean everyone should play video games, but how is it that suddenly every good thing they had to say about a thing goes out the window the moment they find out it’s from a game? How is the simplest concept suddenly so incomprehensible that you have to ask me if I’m swimming 12 times in 10 minutes? If I told them it was a weirdly-shot movie, suddenly they would be able to understand it entirely and respect it.
