Moon in Leo - Slaughtered Sunlight

The moon in Leo is a conflicting experience. However, the energy of Leo with its pride, resilience, and fire can make any harsh experience another accomplishment on their repertoire. The moon is nocturnal, unseen, and the internal conditions hidden by the shadows, so it’s an interesting cosmic experiment when lunar illumination infuses with the sol of Leo. The expression of emotion radiates vividly throughout their auric field like the bleached light of a solar eclipse. Their happiness flows into the ether like honeycomb melting into golden sunlight, passion is a vivid fire dance of scarlet embers, and their sadness is like a crack in the sun leaking light into a black hole. a calorie is the amount of energy released in laboratory conditions to heat water when it’s burned

so in the lab you have an instrument to burn the food and you measure how much of it it takes to heat water a set amount,

this does not in any way reflect how the body works

your body breaks down foods in different ways, for example monosaturated fats break down very slowly but processed sugars break down very fast

so by that logic something that is almost pure carbohydrate would be much worse than something that is almost pure monosaturated fat

not necessarily

oats, for example, are something like 95% fibre, meaning although they are pure sugar the body decides it’s not worth the bother of breaking them down so you get a small fraction of the sugar in the oat

so just going by carbohydrate [aka sugar] content doesn’t work properly either

a stick of butter has WAY more calories than a boiled potato but the stick of butter breaks down over several hours and keeps you satiated longer than that boiled potato that immediately floods your system with sugar, that triggers the response of too much store that for later, which causes a lack in your body which triggers the i’m hungry response

or the peanuts being high protein high fat are the reason why a snickers fills you up longer than a mars bar even though it might have a higher calorie count - because you’re full longer you eat less calories because you don’t go i’m hungry and eat another mars bar 

and that’s all assuming that every body processes food the exact same way

Adding on to all of this up here, hormones play a significant role in fat storage. “Eat less and exercise more” is a fad diet. Losing fat, gaining fat, and maintaining weight has far more to do with hormonal composition in your body than anything. Change your hormonal composition, and your body’s fat distribution is subject to change. This is why dfab people often gain weight when undergoing menopause or after having a hysterectomy (gender confirmation surgeries typically excluded as the subjects are often on testosterone). This is why endocrine disorders are often associated with significant weight loss or weight gain.

Another example of the BMI being bullshit: many professional athletes have very low percentages of body fat while also having a high BMI.

Joe Rogan is considered obese by the BMI, regardless of his low body fat percentage.

I use Lamotrogine EX aka Lamictial XR, 350 mg, once a day to keep my seizures under control.  It also helps treat the symptoms of one of my mental illnesses.  When I first started the medication I put on 30 lbs in two months, no changes to my diet, no changes to my physical activities.  I looked WAY better than I had my entire life, but my BMI was through the roof.  My regular doctor wanted me to eat 1200 calories to drop the weight.  1520 calories is recommended for a FIVE YEAR OLD.  I was 27 and hypoglycemic.  1200 calories is starvation.  Fuck that.  Last year I went from 300 mg to 350 mg and put on more weight.  My new regular doctor said, sure, I could do with a little weight loss but it’s not necessary because I’m healthy.  The only downside of the weight-gain is that I need to buy new clothes.  She told me NOT to lower my calorie intake but instead to just go for a walk everyday.  Her opinion on BMI is that it ought to just be banished.  It’s bullshit, outdated, and makes no sense.  According to BMI I’m obese…but I’m not. 

BMI is outdated. 

Calorie counting is outdated and not everyone processes them the same. 

i remember looking at a bottle of sleeping pills and going “i’m going to kill myself. i’m not going to get out of this town. i’m not going to be able to get into a good college” and then i would go “but wait! if you die tonight, you won’t be there when they invent time travel. what if you die tonight and aliens land tomorrow and you miss it. the entire world would change and you would miss it.” “ah, yes. good point. i’ll wait until next week to die. once i’m dead i’m dead, so i can wait a little longer to see if something cool happens before then.”

the whole “you have so much to live for!” idea was nice and well intentioned, but i felt like people were just spouting bullshit at me because i didn’t. i didnt have any friends or dates or talents.  i had nothing to really live for.

but things like “oh, well if you die now you won’t be able to find out who jon snow’s mother is” did help. because i went “oh, well i’ll finish this book to figure out if my theory is right first.” because i was going to die anyway so a few more hours wouldn’t hurt and by the end of the book i felt less suicidal.
