Time is the only piece of evidence that never lies. People lie. Places change. But time always moves in one direction . . .
[ my the naturals oc — the main info about her.
• full name: 𐔌・Maren Audrey Brooks〃・꒱
• role: natural chronologist.
⋆˚࿔ ⌗ABILITY: Maren not only has a perfect sense of time, but also reads it in everything: cooling coffee, drying blood, shifting shadows, the angle of light. She reconstructs timelines from small details others miss. She notices seconds, minutes, hours and never forgets them.
Born in Sorrento, Italy, to an Italian mother and an American father. Her father died due to illness when she was two. Her mother struggled with depression, leaving Maren to raise herself and her younger sister, Chiara.
When Maren was ten, Chiara went to a friend's house. She was supposed to be back in twenty minutes. Maren lost track of time and by the time she looked at the clock, an hour had passed but Chiara wasn't home yet. . . She was found dead that night.
Maren never forgave herself for those lost minutes. That single moment broke her — not the abduction itself (tho it too, ofc), but more the fact that she let time slip. She became obsessed with it and swore she would never lose track again.
She studied hard, moved to the U.S. to live with her paternal uncle and enrolled in a school with a strong physics program. Her mother was later admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
• Punctual to obsession. She's constantly counting the seconds in her head and can't stand lateness.
• Cold and guarded on the outside.
• Deflects every compliment and doesn't trust praise.
• Fiercely loyal, even if she never says it.
• Bad with strangers' faces. Remembers voices, movement, smell instead.
• Sensitive to loud sounds, they overload her.
• Really soft to peole she loves.
• Always wears her mother's old mechanical watch.
• Collects smooth stones from shorelines and keeps them in a box under her bed.
• Speaks Italian when she's tired or angry.
• Hates rain and is afraid of thunderstorms.
• Can talk about black holes and astronomy for hours.
• Before entering the program she wanted to become an astrophysicist.
• Wraps herself in a blanket from Sorrento when she reads.
• Has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor.
• Her phone is covered with stickers with stars and constellations.
she is. . . salty air, ticking watches, stargazing, the smell of lemons, silence that speaks louder than words.
