i have a croissant related grievance
the entire appeal of the croissant is that it is a layered pastry item. it has a light flaky texture. the layers are in there specifically to create a fluffy, airy eating experience. that's the intention of the lamination process. having so many layers of butter and thin pastry dough make the croissant puff up when it's baked so that when you bite into it the pastry has a texture similar to puff pastry. the entire point is to fill the pastry with air. therefore any trendy hybrid variant of the croissant such the "cruffin" or the "cronut" or the worst offender of all the "croffle" which involve jamming the unbaked croissant or compressing it into a flat shape completely betray croissant as it was originally intended. they defeat the nature of the croissant by forcing it into something it was never meant to be, removing the unique core of its identity, killing its appeal and thus its entire reason for being. now am i saying you can't enjoy a cronut or croffle? of course i would not say this. you can enjoy any pastry you want to enjoy because it's your time on earth. i want you to enjoy your croffle. you should enjoy your croffle. also, you can commit any sin you like and i can't stop you nor do i want to. i won't hear your arguments because you don't need to convince me. but you must understand, as you eat it, that the croffle should not exist. it is a mistake. it is an insult not only to the croissant but to me as an individual. i am not french
This reads as someone with a strong moral code (people should be free to experience joy without arbitrary regulation, you don’t have to like what other people like but your discomfort is your own problem) trying to maintain their faith in a time of hardship (they keep doing weird shit to croissants)
ill be so honest this read of my character in such a fraught croissanted context has me tearing up with the raw joy of being seen

‘Batman should kill the Joker’ discourse never contends with canon datapoints like that time the Joker thought he was dying of cancer so he Jokerfied the pretty much the entire planet and was going to be replaced by a legacy Joker who also had superpowers, or the fact that the Joker has to deal with people who want to kill him so that they can become the Joker, or that time that everyone thought Batman killed the Joker and so a new guy decided to be the Joker until the old one got PO’d at him and came back
There's also takes like Batman: The Audio Adventures where it's outright said that one of the biggest things protecting Joker is the fact that he has a whole widespread cult of personality who would be causing chaos and/or killing themselves and the only reason they're not is because the Joker is around to tell them not to. Which I do think you can sort of surmise is also the case in mainline canon at this point even if it isn't said quite so succinctly.
and its important that this is a given--that killing the joker wont work, or will be a net loss--because you are being asked to think around it. you are being asked to come up with a different solution. writers will come up with a million different reasons why batman can't kill the joker, and none of them are as important as the question:
with execution off the table, what else can you do to solve this problem?
I think the object thing here is what Joker represents. As with everything in comics it’s not always consistent, but it tends to wrap back not just to chaos as a general concept but the specific idea that you could be the victim of sudden, random violence at the hands of a stranger. Someone could push you onto the subway tracks in front of an oncoming train, they could knife you as you’re walking home, they could pull out a gun and start firing indiscriminately into the crowd. These are inherent risks of living in the world that can’t be solved by simply killing the ‘right’ people—there will always be somebody else out there who could hurt you, even if they haven’t decided to do so yet. There will always be another Joker.
This is also why it’s significant that Joker doesn’t have a civilian identity or stable backstory. Broadly speaking, the way that DC characters—and Batman characters in particular—work is that they’re divided into a costumed identity, which represents big, thematic ideas, and a civilian identity, which explains their motivation for engaging with that theme, often via traumatic backstory. Eg., Batman is a symbol of vengeance and justice because Bruce Wayne is haunted by the night he watched his parents get murdered as a helpless child. The fact that Joker has no civilian identity or backstory points to his apparent lack of motivation for hurting people, which is to say, it’s senselessness and unpredictability. He’s the perfect villain for someone whose life was diverted by an arbitrary act of violence.

I can't believe home depot literally produced a wildly successful science fiction musical and we all just pretend it didn't happen. on one hand yes it had a boring white guy main character but like.... home depot just... Made it? And it had shit ton of box office sales? and no one even talks about this. this is like avatar (2009) all over again
OK so. After a lot of frantic googling I realized this was all a dream. home depot did not in fact produce a wildly successful science fiction musical. I was on allergy meds and took a nap and my brain simply prophesized this. slightly disappointed because I wanted to watch it.

You know what I wish we got to see in DS9?
Bajorans with religious trauma.
Bajorans who get visibly uncomfortable when someone says they’ll pray to the Prophets for them.
Bajorans who actively dodge or slap away a monk’s hand going to grab their ear.
Bajorans who take the long route on the Promenade to avoid going past the temple.
Bajorans who cringe a little when non-Bajorans try to relate to them by talking about the things they learned about Bajor’s religious culture.
Bajorans who have been disowned my their families for not strictly following the teachings of the Prophets.
Bajorans who still keep their old religious artifacts and texts because they feel weird about getting rid of them.
Bajorans who get irritated or even angry when their friend/family member won’t do something to help themselves because “the Prophets will take care of them.”
Bajorans who were always told the Prophets loved them and would protect them, but grew up with lots of evidence to the contrary.
ah shit they're gaining on us. we gotta jettison some weight. throw all those stolen boomerangs out we don't need em
On it, boss!
Bad news, boss!
“don’t take it personally” how would you like me to take it then? professionally? romantically? academically?

How the media depicts the Apollo 11 mission:
Actual quotes from the Apollo 11 mission:
also according to michael collins when the three of them were discussing what neil armstrong should say when he first stepped on the moon, collins suggested armstrong say “Oh, my God, what is that thing?” and then scream and cut out his mic.
Everyone forgets Michael Collins and it’s fucking tragic.
