Strategies for Close Reading

Assumptions- consider authorβs explicit or implicit assumptions
Appeals- is the author using logic, ethical concerns or emotional pleas to advance their narrative or arguments?

re-read the text in manageable chunks

underline main ideas or themes
highlight or bracket important information
