2/20/26. These two were an absolute FORCE as a duo. The best of the best on that stage together.
#in my staging they make out sloppy style at the end of this #and at the end of someone else’s story. which is also a duet
Okay I get what I'm supposed to be taking away from this, and I am a fan, but SES as a duet with the two of them would be a legitimately interesting choice for the show.
God though I wish I had video of Sam!Florence and Hannah!Svetlana. What a pair.
You see the vision!! SES as a duet could either be sung with them on opposite sides of the stage, both singing to themselves, or it could take place during a scene where they’re meeting in person, like I Know Him So Well in the original Broadway production. Since various books show that either character could sing it, I’ve always thought why NOT make it another duet for these 2 soaring, beautiful voices? It has so many layers of meaning - could be sung by Florence about Freddie and Svetlana singing about Anatoly, or both of them about Anatoly, or even by Florence about her father and the way she’s been holding out for him her whole life.
And ☝️my ultimate yuri vision is that, after verse 1 and 2 explaining their feelings to each other, the final verse becomes a duet that they sing facing each other, and the line becomes “I could be in someone else’s story, and she could be in mine”, and they (metaphorically) walk into the sunset together
And then we cut You And I (reprise) lol
...you've done it. You've finally fixed Chess. THIS ALL OF THIS. Perfection.
Someone finally re-uploaded the audio of Anthony Stewart Head singing “Anthem” from the musical Chess at a convention to YouTube (the singing starts at 1:18).
I feel a little silly saying so, but I think it’s still my favorite rendition of the song.

Lapping a vanilla cone on the main street of little Saratoga, Calif. Donna Reed rest between visits to town characters.
Putting the term "Catholic guilt" on a high shelf where fandom can't reach it until everyone learns how to identify characters who are very very clearly coded as Protestant.
