Shoreline Retreat
Coastal erosion due to strong winds, high waves and tides, and storm surge conditions that results in portions of a land mass breaking off and sinking into the water.
These pieces explore map animation techniques and varying form to show shoreline retreat. The extruded maps are built using Cinema 4D and geotiff data from the U.S. Geological Survey.
Storm Surges
An abnormal rise of water generated by a storm, over and above the predicted astronomical tide.
A collection of maps that illustrate different techniques of depicting storm surges including use of lines, gradients and 3 dimensional form.
Sea Level Rise
An increase in the mean level between high and low tide of the surface of the sea.
These maps are depicting sea level rise inΒ North Carolina using different graphic techniques. They show intermediate steps from 0ft to a 6ft increase in sea level, which is the most aggressive prediction being thrown out by scientist for the year 2100.

Awesome abstractions from Digital Elevation Models from the USGS
Early experiment with QGIS software. I had no idea what I was doing... but it looks cool.
