there’s definitely a gulf between someone who knows how to play chess and someone who plays chess, but it’s nothing compared to scrabble
specifically, “uwu” is being added to the international english scrabble dictionary, which is apparently a big deal because uuw is a terrible tile combination otherwise

My favorite thing about scrabble is that you can bluff in competitive scrabble. There's no ref checking if words are in the dictionary or not, so it's up to your opponent to challenge. You can deliberately play a fake word if you think your opponent will buy it.
you can also just play without knowing the language like that guy who just memorised most of a french dictionary without knowing how to put a sentence together
Also, in competitive, if you're challenged on a word and it *is* in the dictionary, not only do you get the points for the word but your opponent *loses* the same amount of points, making it potentially dangerous to issue a challenge.
