This was not the first team Lance had been a part of - much less thrown into - a team of strangers. And certainly not to undergo some mission. Both the Galaxy Garrison back home and Team Voltron after that had put him in such situations. Well, at least not all of them were strangers. He easily lifted an eyebrow at Korra, clearly ready to impress the girl he had failed to impress months ago.
âYou know something, Bolin, I should probably take that, I am pretty qualified after all.â It wasnât Lanceâs go to sniper rifle, but it was within his wheelhouse, and watching someone who had obviously never touched a firearm play around with it made him uneasy. âRight, Korra?â

With all of the commotion going on around the city, Urick didnât think he would manage to find a partner for this beacon mess, let alone an entire team, yet here he was, three others beside him (four if you counted Bolinâs adorable rodent), with a brand new beacon kit at their disposal. All they had to do now was work together, and as Urick prepared to open his mouth, he prayed they could.
âHold on, Lance, I think Bolinâs perfectly capable of carrying the blasting tool.â interjected Urick, walking up beside Bolin where he then gave them a friendly pat on the shoulder. Smiling beneath the mask he wore over his head (which was literally just a brown paper bag with eye holes), Urick continues, jovially, âHeâs the one that brought us all together, and in a sense, heâs practically the spirit of our little group here. I say let him have it, heâll be fine!â Lance was probably right in thinking they themselves were more fit to hold the blasting device, and in truth, Urick had his own worries in regards to leaving said device with Bolin, but Bolin seemed so excited by the notion of wielding it. Urick didnât want to ruin the guyâs fun!Â
âBut, and this is an important but,â looking away from Lance for the time being, Urick turns his paper covered visage toward Korra, âwhen it comes to where we go, and what we actually aim the tool at, I feel we should defer to you, Korra. You seem like the most leader-ish of us all.âÂ

It was nice to be a team again. Even though she hadnât been on the island very long, finding Bolin and Lance here was relieving. At least she didnât have to go through this weird challenge alone⌠and this Urick guy seemed decent enough (even if he was wearing a paper bag⌠whatever).Â
âI trust you with it, Bolin.â She decided, siding with Urick on this one. If for whatever reason something did go wrong then she would designate the beacon-handling to someone else. âJust, you know⌠be careful, donât blow anything up.â She didnât know what it was capable of outside itâs specific uses⌠what if it did blow something up? She didnât want to deal with the consequences of that.
Okay, now that sheâd been appointed the leader, she found the first location and led the group to a tall derelict building. âAlright, youâre supposed to shoot that thing up there,â She pointed as she turned her attention to Bolin. âReady?â

âI am SO ready, Korra!â Bolin hollered with a whoop, dashing up closer to the building-- the clinking of the beacon kit followed hasty steps crunching down on gravelly path. A shameless smugness tinged his grinning as he gave his teammates a final salute before turning to properly apprise his target.
âIâll just aim it like so--â He winked an eye to boost his accuracy (that was how the fancier members of the police force did it, right? He was sure heâd seen Mako do it at least once or twice!), and-- huh, the trigger of the thing was sort of awkward to push down on-- click.
A flash of light smacked him harder than a Pro Bending earth disc to the face, and Bolin howled, swinging his arm out to shield against the blinding rays. In his flailing, he fired once more, and the projectile of the beacon kitâs fire steered the soaring shot toward the originally intended destination. The beeping and shift in lights on the kit confirmed its successful installation.
âThis is it! This is that âinstant karmaâ Iâve been hearing so much about!â Bolin cried out all the while, fumbling through colors and blots in his vision to find Korraâs friend and press the beacon kit into his arms. âYou-- Lance! Itâs all yours, pal! Take it-- please take it!â
The tears smothering his bloodshot eyes and inciting his sniffling were because of the light and ONLY because of the light!
