one of my least favourite tumblrisms is the weird fervent belief in the virtuousness of physical violence. like the whole "um, clearly youve never been in a situation where you could get your ass kicked" in reponse to someone like, saying something rude. Like amiguita in a lot of places you can get your ass kicked for saying "i'm gay" or, like, anything with a foreign accent, there is actually no edifying or character-building trait to being in environments suffused with violent machismo! and it always has the implicit undertone of either a like, noble savage view of appalachians or just straight up racist stereotypes

Americans really really need to be less paranoid and more capable of tolerating minor discomfort in public. Not everyone is a pervert/rapist/strangler/fiend. In fact, very few people are. Treating every violation of normal order as though it is a threat is why people are getting shot for turning around in a stranger's driveway. This happens within the frameworks of basically every ideology present in American culture. It is an American illness. If your vision of the world doesn't have room for saying "I'm sure it's nothing" then you really gotta work some shit out.

"let's talk exclusively about crimes in which the suspect is black" was literally what bill o'reilly was doing on fox news when i was in elementary school 20+ years ago, and it was as tired and obvious then as it was back when the nazis were doing it about jews in the 30s, and now trans-men's-rights activists on tumblr are announcing "hey, anyone who would like to describe real or imagined sex crimes exclusively by trans women please form a line for the hate megaphone" like they think they just came up with something new

the fact that dark worlds feel like lively vast worlds full of people with their own thoughts and feelings, while hometown feels like a last thursdayish bubble where every other npc is slowly losing sentience, really drives home how it feels to see no future or interest in your real life and having to sink into fiction to escape that feeling of emptiness
