you are what you love

I was so surprised and impressed with the first twist of Ravi seeming to be a second chance love interest and then boom no he’s brutally murdered on night two. I spent a few chapters trying to figure out how he could actually be alive/come back because what do you mean he was dead that early when I was promised a romance plot line?

But then there was Wyatt and I thought ooh okay maybe we’re doing the “getting over your first love for someone surprising who treats you better”. They were a team (a swarm), it was them and Grasshopper against everyone else and I was honestly loving it. I mean the feelings developed really quickly while they were both supposed to be mourning people but it’s a YA book with a tight timeline I didn’t care. Plus I did an immersive read for the first time and I got attached to Wyatt’s southern accent, okay?

So for the story to then turn around and no it actually was Ravi the whole time? I was disappointed. And then I tried to convince myself it was better that way because the quick feelings made more sense but honestly? I think I wish Ravi was really dead and we’d gotten the unexpected pairing I thought I was reading about.

Also I’m sorry but you want me to believe he “fell in love” with annoying ass Cordelia and was willing to participate in an actual MURDER plot but I’m just supposed to get over that? Did he not know that Dee was going to be a target because of course he was they all hated him?

For a book that had an early plot twist that genuinely made my jaw drop, I think that final twist was just such a let down. And I really enjoyed the rest of the book so I’m sad about it even though maybe it made more sense in the long run this way.
