the fact that laureen is a painter who sees the world through the eyes of an artist and sees the art in the performance that mal puts up to fit into this world, how there's skill and mastery in the way she observes the people around her as an audience and tries to discern how to make them believe whatever she perceives they want to believe so she could disarm them and manipulate them and use them because she believes that is the only way for her to not be used. how deep down mal operates out of survival, out of fear. it's like an intricate narrative. and that's mal's life.

and then how when mal lies in her bed, in reverie, and laureen watches the rising sun slip through the cracks of the window to land on her grey skin, she's reminded of those beautiful statues she saw many sculptors pour years and years of love and dedication into. it's like one of those statues came to life and landed in her bed, in her life.

she sometimes paints little vines and flowers on maleane's arms as the drow reads yet another book, because she's canvas!!! to her beautiful lover!!! laureen likes the way it looks on maleane, the colors and the patterns. it's like she's contributing something to mal's life-tapestry not only in an emotional sense, but also physically??

and then for mal???? she never was in love with someone who saw the world like this!!! she was first in love with a guy who mostly saw the world from the lens of 'oh, what can i get from it?'. the guy who literally robbed people of their blood and lives to maintain his existence. and she was like the outlier, the one he didn't want to use, to hurt. even though in some ways, deep down, he couldn't help but do. and then she loved a druid!! who saw the world from the lens of nature. through growth and nourishment and decay. and in a way, she was also an outlier there, a selfish woman (an antithesis to his absolute selflessness), wearing a face of the people who put him through so much trauma, a part of nature not in the sense of being a bear, or a tree, or a growing seed, like him and everyone around him, but nature as a lightning strike, unpredictable and uncontrollable, and dangerous.

but then mal falls for laureen and becomes part of laureen's world to the point where sometimes mal wonders if she ever sees her as someone outside of it. that person underneath that is so messed up and shattered and imperfect. as who mal perceives herself to be.

Canonically Eilistraeen drow have a ritual known as the changedance. So I present to you Changedanced Iggy/Iggs!

I actually commissioned the original modder for Ingoria's head model to add more drowy ears as all that was available was half-elf ears. The model I used for him was another head of hers that I requested the ears from! It's also the same head model I use for her dad because she looks a lot like her father.
