One of my favourite things about bg3 is it does feel like the writers left room for players to form their own opinions about the companions. There's enough depth to the writing of the game as a whole, and nuance in each companion individually, that it doesn't feel silly that one player could trust a companion and take what they say at face value, and another player could be entirely mistrustful and intuit completely different motivations. Terrible for the discourse, but such a rich vein from a roleplaying perspective.
