“And he kind of was taken aback a bit. And then this woman standing next to me said, ‘Sir, if the general pleases, you must be aware that Sergeant Phelps’s name may be second, but mine will be first.’

“Then I looked at him, and I said, ‘Sir, you’re right. They’re lesbians in the WAC battalion. And if the general is prepared to replace all the file clerks, all the section commanders, all of the drivers—every woman in the WAC detachment—and there were about nine hundred and eighty something of us—then I’ll be happy to make the list. But I think the general should be aware that among those women are the most highly decorated women in the war. There have been no cases of illegal pregnancies. There have been no cases of AWOL. There have been no cases of misconduct. And as a matter of fact, every six months since we’ve been here, sir, the general has awarded us a commendation for meritorious service.’

“And he said, ‘Forget the order.’

You had hopes of apprenticing. Everything had been prepared months in advance and your application had been accepted. There was one tiny problem: You’d be serving your apprenticeship in the city’s infamous Section F-3.

Apprenticeships are difficult enough, but getting dragged into Clan politics, dealing with rival apprentices, and trying to follow your own moral compass all at once complicates matters. The fact there’s more to the rumours surrounding the Section F-3 than you’d first believed doesn’t help. When things threaten to spiral and spill outside the walls into the rest of the city, you’re forced to choose a side and pray to every god you picked the right one.

We’re live early!

This chapter has added so many things that, if it weren’t for the .pdf now being complete, even i couldn’t keep up with it all. Which i realize does not make me sound very competent, but there are 3 (alright, 2, mainly in this chapter) different versions of this story occurring simultaneously, so i think i can be given some slack on that front.  By the end of this chapter you will have met all the LIs and a good chunk of Core Characters, so i’m quite excited to see what comes of that! 

As always, small updates will occur without notice as issues are found. i’m still working without beta readers, so if you stumble upon anything major, please let me know!
