It has taken me a few weeks to write this post. I’ve been going over it time and time again, trying to figure out the best way to go about it and I have the feeling if I do not do it now, I’ll continue putting it off.
This post is my official announcement of shutting down my interactive fiction games. I do not intend to work on any games in the future using CS format or any other that comes to mind. I still intend to continue working on art and writing, but it will be for my own benefit and for my close friends.
Omens and Entities have remained live until now, but as I have no intention or ability to continue working on them as Choice Script games, I will be removing them in the coming days.
I have a terrible attention span which causes me to swing wildly between projects. It is the reason I liked to keep more than one in rotation - A sort of vain hope that at least one would always be updating. It is not fair to readers who are waiting for content to update and it is unfair to myself as I try producing the content. Due to backups being lost, I no longer have the game files or work files for any of the Choice Script stories I have worked on in the past. I did my best to look at the silver lining in this particular situation and use it as a clean slate to rework Omens using only the original story’s backup I had managed to salvage. Obviously, that has not quite gone to plan, either. This is not the only reason I’m writing this, but it is the primary reason. There are aspects of personal life I don’t wish to talk about publicly that have nudged the decision forward and the past two years have been a slow downward slope where mental health and recovery are concerned. It does not put me in the best place to be part of a wider community or to be creating content for a larger audience in this type of format. It took me longer than it should have to realize this.Â
Thank you so much to everyone who has stuck by these games. The interest, excitement, and support have been shining bright spots during some very bleak times and fueled the desire to keep going - Not only with the games, but to continue pushing forward to become a better writer and person. I’m still working on both of those things and I hope to see you all again when some of that work comes to fruition.
