The best part about The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is that the ending called "The Stupidest Ending Ever" is not actually the stupidest ending that exists in the game.

Danganronpa’s writing is actually decent to great through 90% of the games.
Other VNs it often gets compared to are just not (yet) on the level of presence where people would be instinctively bothered by them, which would prompt them to examine every inch of them for flaws and blow every little flaw they found out of proportion.
One of things about Komahina that is genuinely funny to me is that people who are not into it treat it as kind of super weird modern internet phenomena, like do they really don’t know that “enemies to lovers” and “bigot with a crush” were known and frequently used tropes before internet was a thing and likely before people even invented written language or are they playing their surprise up on purpose?
Makoto thinks the glass is half full.
Junko thinks the glass is half empty.
Komaeda thinks the glass is half empty but the bright symbols of hope can definitely make it half full even if he makes holes in it as they try to pour water.
Mikan thinks the glass is full of nasty flu bacteria and now she will trip and spill it out and everyone would fell ill and be mad and hate her oh no she actually tripped.
Hajime thinks the glass is half empty but he definitely totally deserves a half full one and this is injustice so he needs to undergo a dangerous shady brain surgery to fill his glass.
Izuru does not think about the glass.
Ryoma thinks the glass is empty and broken.
Kirumi thinks that broken glasses are bad because she can’t drown people in them, but at least she can murder Ryoma with a shard.
In medieval Europe there was a good luck charm known as a Hand of Glory. It was a criminal’s left hand - usually collected from bodies after public executions that authorities left there as a warning.
The more wicked the person was, the more good luck it was believed to bring.
That reminded me of…
And now I keep wondering if it was intentional.

Me: Danganronpa is such an interesting game series it deserves to have more analysis posts so maybe I should make some…
Me: Hajime getting into the game required him to lose all of his money on HPA debt and Hajime getting out required him to lose all of his monocoins… so deep…
You aren’t homophobic for hating mlm or wlw ship. Dislike it, hate it, hate it with passion, write angry rant about it and post it on all your social media if it makes you feel better - nothing wrong with it as long as you tag it properly. Do as you please.
You are, however, homophobic for holding mlw ships and mlm or wlw ships to vastly different standarts.
You know like, when people just casually refer to a game’s female lead or main support character as “protagonist’s girlfriend” - and nobody cares because everyone knows it is just light-hearted joke born from their canonical ship teases - but then get viscerally angry when people do the same for Ishimondo, Sakuraoi or Tokomaru.Â
When nobody has any claims when people call a relationships between a boy and a girl who hang out a lot and seem to be really close “canon ship” despite lack of evidence of it being explicitly romantic or sexual - but then instantly jump at their Holy Book Of Canon and bash people’s heads with it whenever someone dares to try the same with mlm or wlw couple that fits the same criteria.
When people have an endless benefit of doubt for heterosexual relatipnships that are built on love but have potential to be really, really problematic under wrong circumstances - and literally zero of it for wlw and mlm ships.
When anybody interested in mlm dynamic gets called fujo dismissively when male fans literally fawning over their underaged waifus and self-insert ships are widely tolerated.
When mlm or wlw ship tease gets dismissed as mindless pandering while mlw ship tease is always totally valid and actually is a sign creator ships them too and wants you to do so.
Etc, etc.
I know those thing are often not done with any ill intent - or even not done consciously. But the fact that all of those things are not just mumbling of some obviously bigoted, malicious people, but rather a large trend prevailing in fandom spaces in general is even more concerning.
Even if it is not done with ill intent, but rather born from subconscious bias, it is dishearting and upsetting to see, especially for, you know, LGBTQA+ people who are already forced to fight for simple recognition of their idetities and their right to exist in their daily lives. And forcing them to fight the same fight when it comes to a work of fiction, which is supposed to be escape and comfort, is honesly a shitty thing to do.Â
Hey people.
“Character’s trauma and mental illness are not excuse for their bad actions” and “We can’t look at character’s actions and properly analyze them without taking into account their trauma and mental illness” are two statements that can and should co-exist.
Man I hear the talks about how Komaeda “robbed” the fandom of beta Akane as antagonist and also counterpoints about how Komaeda is so well-done as a character so it’s hard to imagine any incarnation of Akane being better and it was annoying so I present you new idea.
Akane and Komaeda as co antagonists.
Both being undisturbed by whataver messed up stuff happens around because they had enough of it so finally that part of Akane’s character gets properly adressed.
Komaeda chllaenging Hajime as calculated step to make Hajime succeed in the long term because his reasonings are usually right, Akane challeging Hajime from pure gut feeling, also making him succeed in the long term as her illogical survival instict is also often right.
Komaeda being physically weak and physically passive, his main danger being playing mind games, Akane being someone who actually can and will kill you but easy to manipulate and use it to take advantage.
Komaeda having deathwish and Akane having probably the strongest will to survive of them all.
Komaeda thinking he is too worthless to have good things, Akane being hedonistic, have her obsession with food from growing poor and her sexuality issues finally not play for cheap laugh.
Komaeda having to create a big complex cope system to stop caring about stuff, Akane being so worn out by her childhood she genuinely does not get what is wrong.
Both being afraid to get close to people because those people would likely die, Akane seeing attachment as a weakness, Komaeda being sure he is cursed with a literal cosmic power.
Akane’s bond with Nekomaru being played as a form of bond that actually makes her stronger, not weaker. Akane learning to value life again thanks to Nekomaru in Chapter 3 and 4.
Akane’s redemption arc that starting around same time as Komaeda’s breakdown and descent into madness. Akane actually attacking Komaeda when he insults and taunts her over Nekomaru’s body. Akane listening to nobody telling her to stop and having Monokuma physically restrain her. Akane’s willingness to listen in the next Chapter like in canon being played as a sign of her grwoing bond with anyone and her willingness to accept that physical answer is not always the only answer.
Komaeda’s suicide disturbing Akane, not because she cares for him in any form, but because she finally gets it, something above the desire to live, and it scares her.
Post Game scenario where instead of pushing people away and isolating himself Komaeda surrounds himself with so many friends and loved ones that whenever his luck strikes it is just minor inconvenience for everyone and nobody has to die.

Hajime with the help of Mikan convincing Komaeda that his body is a very valuable research subject and needs to be taken care of just to convince him to eat and sleep healthy and not hurt himself…
Actually I kind of approve how Komaeda treats reserve course students.
No, I do not approve it.
I think he should bully them way harsher.
Okay, but like why is the reddit thing so accurate tho, like whenever I see a post about Ko there, it's always either bad memes or people being like "he's so evil, the most crazy of evils and if you don't agree that he's just evil for the sake of being evil you wobify him!! He will spit on your talentless grandma for fun, no stress of the killing game needed for him to murder people he admires too. But also i think this interpretation is very interesting and smart of me" and it's like, buddy. Buddy, did you even play the game
Yes this is exactly the point.
I think thing that turned me off from talking on DR reddit is not even "bad" takes or whatever - peopel can like or dislike characters as much as they want - but just how allergic they are to discussions?
You reply them in completely civil neutral tone and they get ridicuosly offended and think you're some crazy person who can't accept opinions becaue… your reply was long? And they're weirdly obsessed with having the last words in the discussion with internet stranger so they see it as an insult to their opinion? Don't know man I have no idea why can you see that someone has a lot of thoughts about your opinion and somehow take it as a bad thing.
Like if you are not interested in discussion with internet stranger, it is completly valid too - but then just move on? Don't post opinion in a public space and then… get mad and offended and have that weird victim complex of being "attacked" because people reacted to it and replied you in a completely civil tone.
Canon vs fanon meme except actually accurate.
It really makes me wonder how there is so many absolutely valid reasons to dislike Komaeda in the game - and he is intentionally written to be disliked at first - but whenever someone actually talks about their dislike for him, it’s pretty much always a textbook case of “how to say you have no reading comperhension skills without saying you have no reading comperhension skills”.

I sometimes find myself feeling bad for Komaeda in an unique way
Not because his parents died and his dog got hit by a truck and he got diagnosed with terminal illness and felt lonely and unloved or whatever - don’t get me wrong, it is sad in its own right but the amount of over the top tragic backstories in Danganronpa and in other stories kind of left me numb to most of them.
But him just not being able to enjoy anything good that happens to him because he knows it will be eventually taken away in the harshest way possible is one of the most sad feelings to imagine.
One thing that bothers me in “is Komahina healthy™” discussion is weird false dichotomy of it.
Literally any relationships has potential to turn unhealthy. If you think it is unhealthy in specific context of Danganronpa 2′s killing game, especially Chapter 4 and 5, it is absolutely valid. In fact, even most hardcore shippers would agree with you here.
However, if you think it is unhealthy by nature in literally all situations and just want to randomly ignore Komaeda's characterizations that contradicts and brush it off as not canon it because you do not like it and think he should be a creepy stalker because he “gives you vibes” or whatever, you are probably ableist.
Because if a mentally ill person with poor understanding of human interactions “has to” be a creepy stalker yandere incapable of human love or whatever and you ignore literal chunk of canon characterization that not only not confirms it, but actively contrdicts it as “fanservice” or “not as important” as whatever else things he did, it is ableism.
And it’s hard to believe someone is arguing in good faith when they say things like that.
