Space travel is a dangerous thing at sublight. Asteroids, piracy, ray bursts, vengeful archotechs, they'll shear your ship in half before the subcore can even react. All I remember is that we were scrambling to escape. We grabbed what we could, mostly weapons from the onboard stocks, and got to the pods.

Four of us out of Coskypon knows how many made it down.

There's me, Rika, I'm a Psyon, genetically engineered to be a powerful psycaster for an end-war that never came. It has its upsides, but you can only watch so many other folks' parents die in their 60s from cancer before you realize you're a ticking time bomb too, and I'm 54 so I get to worrying sometimes. I'm our resident surgeon and scientist, so I'll be spending my time between the lab and the hospital.

Caskas is a baseline human, grew up on the homeworld and everything. His folks were dirt farmers, and he was a dirt farmer before signing on for this. It's nice having someone who can grow smokeleaf though. Takes a bit of the sting off the whole crashing on a foreign world thing.

Melisnos... I think you pronounce it Melisnos, she can't tell me anyhow, but that's what was on her nametag, is our Destrier. Has all the social finesse of a brick in that she can't talk either, but unlike me she's not telepathic. I've never got on with Destriers. They're brutes, plain and simple. Bred to kill, and damn good at it. The only problem is, because they're so damn good at it, they get to liking it after a while. I've seen her behead a yttakin with a butter knife in the mess for looking at her the wrong way. Only time I've seen her smile. Still, if you're going to crash in hostile territory, you'd rather have one with you.

Kosdos is technically our NCO, but she's the shittest leader I've ever known. She's a decent shot, and she built the shack on our first day down real quicklike though so I don't mind having her here. When I say she's a shit leader, I mean the damn Destrier is more charismatic than her. She can't charm or intimidate worth a damn.

It has a beauty rating of 404. For comparison, a standard 'normal' sculpture has a rating of less than 100. It singlehandedly elevates the throne room I put it in to levels of 'impressiveness' high enough to satisfy a high ranking official. And its some fucked up mixture of this:
