Carol scrunched up her nose.  “Oh god, let’s cross that off the list then.  No one wants reminders of their exes.  Let me see…. Do you know what kind of soil you have?  Probably not.  I could come by for a consultation if you’d like.  Anemone plants might be the perfect fit, but the soil type makes a difference.”

“That would probably be better than me trying to guess at what kind of soil I have.” She was right he didn’t know what kind he had. Max didn’t even know there could be different types. 

Clare gave Maxwell a look. “That is possibly the most specific yet vague request I’ve ever gotten,” she said, shaking her head. “What exactly is this event? Is there a theme?”

"It's a birthday party. I don't really like the guy, but we worked on a show together for years, and if I don't show up for at least half an hour I won't hear the end of it. Trust me I skipped two years ago and he's still telling everyone about how I gave him the shaft."

“Oh geez, that sounds super stressful, actually,” Judah said with a laugh. “I feel like I’m way too indecisive and competitive for a game like that. I’d be worried about making the wrong choice every time.”

"The one thing that's both an upside and downside of the game is that once you've made a wrong decision you know to make the opposite one next time. It helps with getting through the game, but it kind of cuts down on the re-playability"

A soft ‘ha’ when the stranger spoke.

“Yes… That’s right. I’m honestly surprised it they handed been chucked a decade ago. Dr. Kokumo seemed much more… fashion forward than that…” he cleared his throat, twisting fabric swatches between his hands, “I suppose this is all just… Very new to me. I’m used to just… working with the bodies – the dead people –” He clarified, knowing that speaking about the deceased as objects (though they… were…) could be seen as insensitive when he didn’t mean it to be, “The family members, and their comfort? That’s new. Not to mention…” the energy of the previous owner that was left behind. But he was rambling. 

“I’m sorry. I’m talking too much.”

"Maybe. Can't say I've ever thought of a funeral place as being fashion forward though." It wasn't like Max was very fashion forward himself and was definitely glad he had help when it came to certain events where he had to look nice. "It's fine" he gave a sort of 'ah, don't worry about it' gesture with his hand. "You ever thought about hiring someone to do all the family member stuff?"

"So, I have an event coming up, the you have to dress nice because people will be taking your picture kind, and I’m looking for something that says I clean up nice, but also maybe I wish I was somewhere else.”

Theo chuckled a bit. “So glad I don’t have to suffer from the stupidity of having an agent, none of them have contacted me back anyway so I’m not going to sit and cry over it.”

“She’s not that bad most of the time. Just when she throws last minute things at me. You know I could always pass something of yours along to her.” he offered “for her or another agent at the place she works for.”

Taking the phone to get a better look, Carol used her other hand to tap a finger against her lips as she hummed in thought.  “Oh a few months huh?  That might make things a bit more tricky.  Hmmmm.  How do you feel about lavender?  Although be warned, bees love them.”

“I actually don’t know very much about lavender. That’s a lie, I don’t know anything about lavender except that my ex’s trailer on set always smelled like it for 5 months.”

Silas had seen the other a few times now the had been out running more than once. Today their paths crossed again and they both took up running next to each other. Though he was quite picky about witches, his distrust and dislike didn’t extend to his own kind surprisingly. Silas huffed out a laugh as his new running buddy questioned the purpose of running. “I must admit though I do like weights or the ring more, I still like this. I guess I’m crazy and convinced myself this is fun?”

“Something like that” Max laughed, “I enjoy hitting the punching bag myself, never properly been in a ring before. Not really looking to purposely get my ass kicked” he shook his head as they continued on their run. There was also his career he had to think about to when it came to this sort of thing. He both stayed in shape AND avoided fights because of it.

The ghost cat that occupied the funeral home was cute, sure, but really beginning to grind Sydney’s gears.

So here he was in the furniture shop, looking for replacement couches for the lobby. The originals had be scratched to ribbons. It was embarrassing.

He stared blankly at the paisley couch in front of him. Then turned his attention to the stripped mustard number.

“...Is it just me or are both of these options absolutely dreadful?” A pause, “...I’m sorry, I’m sure you care little about my seating preferences. It’s just... I run the funeral home in town and I’m afraid these would only aid to the grief of my clients... Or am I being too judgmental? Oh, I don’t know, what do you think?” It was this person’s lucky day, if anyone could stress over couch covers if was Sydney — the worlds most indecisive funeral director.

Max had decided his place needed some interior remodeling, at least when it came to the furniture and ‘decor’ a term he wouldn’t use himself, but according to the internet and certain tv shows seemed to be correct. There was no real reason for the decision, midlife crisis perhaps? But he’d been looking over the couches, to put one into one of the extra bedrooms, when he heard a voice talking about two of the couches. 

“Well, they are on sale.” he mused, knowing that people tended to put things on sale that they were having a hard time getting rid of (or too much of in stock. He doubted in this case it was the latter) “I don't think you're being judgemental, you definitely want something that won't remind people too much of the dead grandmother they’re burying’s place.”

Theo gave the ice cream a sad look because he was indeed, intolerant and it wasn’t worth the pain at the end of the day. “I’m sure you were fine, Max. They understand that technology is shaky at its best. Why didn’t you go to the actual audition place though?”

“The actual place is too far out of the way.” Max told him, “and it was sort of a last minute one. Which, I don’t know whether to thank or strangle my agent for that.”

“I think…” theo pretended to think “that’s a one way ticket to becoming lactose intolerant.” Then he gave his uncle a look. “What’s up? You don’t usually try to drown your sorrows in a bucket of ice cream.”

I’m already allergic to peanuts, what’s one more thing” he grabbed to containers of the previously mentioned ice cream to put in the basket. “oh this isn’t drown my sorrows ice cream this is stress eating ice cream because I’m pretty sure I just bombed an audition over zoom because my wifi decided today of all days to be a piece of crap.”
