OH MY GOD HOLY SHIT HI
Either I never get to the scene that I’m desperate to write, or I actually get to that scene and can’t write it because I’ve hyped it up and perfected it so hard in my mind that I’ll never be able to capture it in words.
An update:
I got to that scene and it turned out better than anything I could’ve ever imagined!!
Writing it down does wonders.
I think the lesson that I’ve learned through this series of posts is that it will always be better written down.
As perfect as it is in your head, it doesn’t even compare to actually being able to read over it.
It’s also better to write it down crappily than to keep it locked up in your head, because you can redraft it. If you think it’s terrible, that’s just a roadmap of changes you can make to bring it closer and closer to your vision.
Nothing compares to reading that scene over and patting yourself on the back.
to every writer who needs to hear it
if nobody told you today, i want you to know that you’re a tremendous writer, and you’re capable of achieving whatever it is you want to achieve.
you’re allowed to doubt yourself. you’re allowed to be disappointed, and you’re allowed to feel like you’re not doing enough, but that still doesn’t make you a bad writer.
you might not believe in yourself right now, but i believe in you, and i’m telling you, you’re more than capable of writing something extraordinary. don’t forget, every writer’s voice is unique, and if you’re not here to tell your story, that story would never be told, because nobody can replace you.
