**BOOK OF LIFE SPOILER**
This may be a āduhā take but, in BOL, Ysabeau mentioned that she was a training Lamia before she was turned. I didnāt really think about it at the time but as she said, she was training to see the future.
Lamia can mean vampire as thatās what she was but it doesnāt make sense because thatās what she was BEFORE being reborn as a vampire.
In Greek mythology, Lamia was a queen who was yet another victim of Zeusā WKINHP (wonāt-keep-it-in-his-pantsā) -itis and Heraās ITOMRTMWHOHV (imma-take-out-my-rage-towards-my-whore-husband-on-his-victims) Disorder.
But, Lamia was also one of many words that meant āwitchā.
So, if we take that definition, Philippe also married and mated with a witch (after she became a vampire). It also explains why she hated them, even before what happened to Philippe.
Envy.
She never got to explore the wonder of magic. She got a taste then had that ripped from her by her sire. This is not to excuse her actions of actively hunting them with Pope Skeeze (knowing his perverse interest in them), it simply gives more of an insight.
