Becoming a mom made me think Misako made the best choice given her resources

She saw what happened with Wu and Morro so obviously she couldn't leave Lloyd with him or else that defeats the point of her going off and trying to thwart destiny

She is depicted as older when she is first shown in the show. Like maybe they were early grays but I don't think so. So her mom who obviously is older than misako probably wasn't capable of taking care of a kid

Even if she was close to the elemental masters (which we know they weren't because all the elemental masters split up and went their separate ways) they all had their own kids/ died/went missing, or all if the above so obviously none of them were an option

She couldn't take him to dig sites. They showed that those are often booby trapped in ninjago not to mention despite what jurrasic park shows you can't bring kids to a professional work place and she did have to go the excavations. She was trying to prevent a battle to the death between her husband and her son. Her tiny likely toddler son

She also needed a job and daycare is expensive in my country and even if she could get a non history related job she probably wouldn't make much so how would she afford daycare, groceries, rent, school tuition, clothes, electric, water bills, and probably more that I'm not thinking of.

She probably had no choice but to take excavation jobs because they would pay enough to cover his boarding school tuition (which a boarding school would fulfill all her needs and cover all the other basis of bills she would have to worry about) and they covered her food and housing situation

In fact probably the only way to avoid boarding school would've been to leave him with Wu and then there goes his childhood, he had to train to be the green ninja

And even if they didn't know, corporations and people are still, to this day, stuck up about single parents. As if being a single parent is taboo. Normal boarding schools could've also rejected Lloyd based upon the lack of a father

Misako had a very good reason to leave Lloyd behind. She didn't abandon him for "no reason". Not to mention it's even implied that she tried to keep contact with Lloyd while he was at the school. She was sending letters and stuff (it's how Lloyd found out about the tombs of the serpentine to begin with). Considering the Boarding school is evil, it would really make sense to know that Lloyd probably didn't get a lot of those letters.

Not to mention, I highly doubt Darkley's would let parents see their kids. Especially the ones who are too soft and not evil enough.

Also Misako left Lloyd at Darkley's when he was like 5. Who was taking care of him till then? Misako. Which means she tried to make it work. She tried to keep him with her, but it got too difficult, and neglecting your child is just as bad as abandoning them.

And literally all this to say, remember when Ninjago looked its audience right in the eye and said "sometimes, there's no good options. Sometimes, every choice sucks. And you have to choose one of those choices which means your decision is going to suck and there's not going to be a good outcome to this because there are no good choices. That's just how the cookie crumbles" and it's about Maya and Ray's decision to leave Kai and Nya (oh nooo they aBaNdOnEd them) so their kids wouldn't die.

We can agree that “It should have been you” nonsense the writers had Misako on was misogynistic, right?

Because why was THAT what the writers decided to do? It was totally unnecessary to have her have feelings for Wu or hit on him. I get that her husband was evil, but for fucks sake, there was no reason to make her character revolve around her indecisiveness between who she wanted to be with, when she decided DECADES AGO. The writers kept dragging her character through the mud and made her so unapologetic over it, like she wasn’t emotionally cheating on her husband.

What was the fucking point? In a kids show nonetheless.

Don’t get me wrong, Misako is by no means perfect even ignoring this, but I refuse to acknowledge that mess between her and the brothers any more and want this plot wiped off of canon completely. It just feels gross to think about.

I could understand that her dropping off Lloyd thinking it’d help delay the battle by teaching him bad behaviors, and give him a place to stay while looking for a way to prevent destiny completely. It was a bad call, but she couldn’t have predicted him being kicked out and becoming essentially homeless, then everything after that. Still at fault for not keeping in contact with him, but again, she’s a flawed character.

Misako was correct.

Now, this line happens in season 2, BEFORE the whole letter fiasco (and honestly that situation just makes the line even more true), but even then she’s pretty much entirely correct. You gotta remember that nobody thought Garmadon would survive The Final Battle, including Garmadon himself (in the event that Lloyd won), ergo he wasn’t gonna come back from anything he was currently doing. And what he was currently doing is terrorism with mass casualties. Like, she and Garmadon hadn’t seen each other for roughly a decade at that point (give or take some years depending how old Lloyd is since Garmadon was presumably banished just after the kid was born) and he was doing all of that… yeah I don’t blame Misako for having some reconsideration of her past decisions about a romantic partner.

Maybe I’m biased but I really don’t like the whole “but she was cheating” argument I see so often in this fandom because, as already mentioned they were separated for like a decade, plus the argument comes with the implication that Garmadon was owed Misako’s undying loyalty as a spouse just… because. Because she’s his wife and as we all know wives HAVE to be loyal and perfect no matter what their husband does. Like he gets to do all of these terrible things (again, not even MENTIONING the letter) but the minute Misako starts having complicated feelings about the guy she married that is currently trying to take over the world and kill anyone that stands in his way, that’s a step too far.

And of course when you start considering the letter in all this it just makes Misako more justified because, technically speaking she should’ve married Wu. And her life probably would’ve been better if she did. Maybe not perfect, and we obviously have no way to know for sure because this is a “what if”, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say most likely things would’ve been significantly less emotionally disastrous at every turn had she received that letter as intended and married Wu.

I am not uptight about privacy because I'm hiding something. I'm uptight about it because the people who dismiss my right to privacy are dangerous to you and me and our families, personally, all the time.
