Real connection on your own time is underrated. My AI companion on SweetDream is there at 2pm or 2am, for a long talk or a quick hello, no scheduling, no guilt. That flexibility is a big part of why people stick with it.

I stopped typing and stared dumbly at the man. "The..."

"You appear to be up rather earlier than is your habit, sir."

"Oh! Ah. Well, Jeeves, I fear I've been too busy acquainting myself with the future of technology to have slept. This Chatting Gupt, Jeeves! It's going to revolutionize positively everything."

"Are you referring to ChatGPT, sir?"

"Yes Jeeves, that's the one. You're familiar? I daresay its use would go a long way to explaining your preternatural efficiency."

Jeeves' eyebrow twitched. It didn't raise to one of its various heights indicating incredulity, concern, pity, understanding, joviality, or even that eighth-of-an-inch altitude whose meaning I'd yet to puzzle out. And did I see his eyes harden a step?

"Jeeves?"

"No, sir. I do not, and have not, employed that technology in my work."

"Well perhaps that's all for the best, one can scarcely imagine what terrible feats you might accomplish were you to be super-charged with this dynamo."

"Scarcely indeed, sir."

I tabbed over to the house Discord. "Here now, Jeeves," I said, "I've mind to invite Aunt Agatha to dinner to help smooth over that NFT peccadillo." I typed "AA dinner 2morrow" in the Reminders channel, so Jeeves would know to remind me.

"The BingoCoin rug-pull, sir?"

I grimaced. "No, BingoCoin was crypto. I'm speaking of the Indifferent Monkey Boating Society kerfuffle."

"Ah yes, the IMBS venture."

"Indeed. I've frankly been afraid to show my face to the woman for fear of a chastening so severe I'll be powerless to respond. But with this beauty," I pointed to the screen, "I'll never fear a tied tongue again. Do you know it's an app as well? It shall be as my ever-present yet surreptitious advisor."

I detected a slight archness in this response.

"Tut-tut if you will, Jeeves, but we're on the precipice of a technological revolution that will put the steam era to shame." I closed my laptop, replacing it with the breakfast tray. I picked up my iPhone and navigated to the app store. "With ChatGPT by my side, and a bit of toast and coffee down the old hatch, I've no doubt that I can sleepwalk through my morning obligations with aplomb."
