I really enjoy Kirk's character in Charlie X. I love how he is NOT interested in being a father figure for Charlie, and just how uncomfortable he is with the whole situation, at first. Its so interesting. "There's a million things in this universe you can have, and there's a million things you can have. And thats the way things are'. Then, later, I love how Kirk, a human man with no powers, is able to stand up against Charlie how he does. Also, this might be one of the few episodes that genuinely disturbed me. Shudder. Poor Janice. No wonder she transferred of the ship, between this an everything else. Charlie is genuinely frightening. ALSO ALSO I love all the crew interactions in here!! Spock and Uhura doing their music, Spock and Kirk playing chess, getting to see all the other crew member interacting in the rec room. Spock's lil smiles! The fuckass red tights!! Thinking about it, it's been really interesting seeing peoples reaction to Shatner's acting as Kirk (calling it over done particularly) for two reasons for me.
1. While there are a lot of moments from him that don't land well, I'm under the impression that most people just don't like a theater oriented acting style on film anymore in general
and
2. I felt so comfortable with the mannerisms of the TOS crew, Kirk especially. As a kid I learned an exaggerated way of doing expressions, somewhat deliberately, probably from watching tv. I have very particular inflections and wording. He and Spock behave and speak how I do! My masking actually slipped a lot more for a period because my brain had people like myself to model after.
It's always fascinating to me when people object to those kinds of acting styles because I always both love and feel so at home in them. And Shatner in Kirk overall is phenomenal. Most of his characterization in scenes is done through body language, expression, and tone. You really need to pay attention to properly understand what's happening with him, but I don't think it's difficult he communicates everything very well.

You all need to understand that autonomy and especially bodily autonomy NEEDS to include being allowed to do things that are bad for you. True bodily autonomy includes being allowed to do things that are risky, drugs, cosmetic procedures and the like. Bodily autonomy needs to include being allowed to get high or smoke or get a BBL. The important part is education about the risks

Pretending something is hazardous because you do not like the smell is dumb as hell :/. Secondhand smoke is only proven to be a hazard when you live with a smoker or VERY VERY regularly stand incredibly close to people smoking, in which case, move and leave them alone? Literally move your body away from the people you seek to control. The entire point of this post was "people should have full bodily autonomy even if it makes you uncomfortable" and your actual response was "yes, except for the one thing that makes me too uncomfortable!" You literally did not agree with a single word of the post
