[Image Description: Screenshot of text superimposed over a picture of a gear shift and part of a car's dashboard. A panel with several mechanical toggle switches, some of which have official-looking protective covers, has been bolted to the dashboard. Text reads, "I installed switches on my car's dash that don't do anything. When someone gets in my car I look them in they eye, say 'buckle up,' and start flipping switches in what appears to be a purposeful order. Then I'll drive like a grandma while refusing to answer any questions about the switches" End ID]
I never really considered that a rabbit would care for a scarab one way or the other. Didn't think a rabbit could formulate an opinion on the scarab at all
She looks way more aware of the scarab than I thought she could be tbqh
I just want to make a quick note about this before people get too silly about the situation. It's very important to remember that Robbie is Native American, and is putting a lot of work into making sure that Kattigan has indigenous cultural touchstones as part of his characterization. And that is the appropriate lens through which we should view his missing and murdered wife and daughter, I think.
I would be reluctant to use fridging in this exact context, because this isn't some imaginary scenario to generate manpain for a white hero, this is a much more common experience of Native American and First Nation people, having their wives and daughters and sisters (in particular, but not exclusively) go missing. And never getting answers, never learning what happened, and not being believed that there's a problem in the first place.
This is like how being rescued from a tower by a prince is not particularly empowering or affirming to cis physically able straight thin perisex white women and girls, but can be for basically anybody else. Particularly black girls and women, who do not get a lot of cultural messages that treat them as people who are so valuable and precious, who may not have the strength to save themselves, or may wish that they didn't fucking have to save themselves (and everyone else) all the time.
White men have this story so often happen that we have a trope name specific to one specific and particularly egregious version of this, but you don't often see men who look like Robbie dealing with this type of story in fictional settings, even though it happens for men like Robbie in real life with horrifying frequency.
Sometimes stories that are old can be new again in different hands, from different point of views, so just... mind how you step here.
I have a crack theory that Socrates wasn't particularly unique, he just had a student that wrote things down and happened to teach Aristotle, who then taught Alexander the Great and became The Guy Who Thinks of all time.
Maybe there were, idk, thirty Socrates-esque dudes in Athens. How would we know?

he gets EXTREMELY offended when they add Zuko to the group because CLEARLY Aang already HAS a firebending teacher

peace and love on Earth..
I know I say this a lot, but it’s crazy to me that the atla fandom has any sort of tendency at all to portray zuko as rational, levelheaded, clever, knowledgeable, studious, meticulous, practical, reasonable, logical, or otherwise intelligent. while he does possess certain strengths, his greatest are his grit and tenacity, resilience built up through a lifetime of failures born of a tendency for heedlessness, rushing into choices without thinking through the consequences or weighing his options whatsoever. he has his moments, to be sure, but that’s largely because he happens to be far luckier than he gives himself credit for. oh, and while we’re at it, he’s also certainly not stoic, aloof, even-tempered, mature, or quiet. the fact that he’s foolhardy and impulsive and reckless and dramatic and loud and emotionally expressive and myopically driven and strong-willed are sort of his defining qualities, actually. they’re also the traits that make his character actually endearing, so im not really sure why people seem so determined to negate them.
op's tags are too true:
#thinking again abt how he literally had aang's exactly address and instead decided to kidnap appa. #which means he's either illiterate or an idiot #at least one of which is certainly true
For everyone who ‘used to love reading’ but now hasn’t finished a book in years, you CAN get it back. Genuinely start bringing a book (preferably short and either fiction or a non fiction topic you already really enjoy) everywhere you go and when you have 5-20 mins waiting for the bus or at the doctors office or mechanic or whatever, get out your book and read it! You don’t have to finish it quickly or even read it often but it is so good for your brain and fun to get into the habit of reading more (and replacing being on your phone for those moments). Source: I read 0 books in 2023 and I’ve read 12 in the first 4 months of 2026

if astrology was real it ought to be affected by anthropogenic space objects. imagine being like yeah this month has sucked for me bc the iss is in sagittarius
"ok but the iss orbital period is 90 minutes it would only be in sagittarius for <10min at a time"
is this a safe space to confess i don't actually know what it means for an object to be "in" an astrological house?
My understanding is that you split the universe into twelve orange slices centered on earth, vertical to the equator and fixed relative to the stars.
So sagittarius refers to a particular area/volume of the sky, and an object is in sagittarius if it's physically located there.
That is basically correct.
We know now that all the stars in the universe are in motion, and very fast as well, but, they are so far away their apparent motion on the 2D surface we see as the sky is essentially zero. So the vast majority of the surface of a sphere we see looking up at the sky is a fixed tapestry, unchanging, at least on the scale of human lifetimes. It can be carved up into regions, which we call constellations, and which are named for the prominent asterisms in those regions.
"Planet" comes from Greek for "wanderer." The seven planets, in that sense, are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Luna and Sol (the moon and the sun) and they are called wanderers because they "wander" with respect to the fixed stars. We say they're "in" a constellation when they visually appear in that area of the tapestry. It actually tells you where they are in the sky if you want to look for them.
We name other stuff after the constellations they're in too. You may have heard of Proxima Centauri b, an earth-like planet. It orbits the star Proxima Centauri, which is in the constellation Centaurus. Proxima Centauri is in the Alpha Centauri star system, which has three stars, and is labeled on this map. Beta Centauri, another triple star system, is also labeled on this map.
Because the planets are all in the same plane, they only move through 12 constellations. That's the red line on the constellation map. The ISS actually doesn't orbit in the plane of the solar system tho, so I'm pretty sure it's capable of passing through constellations off of the ecliptic. I'm also suspicious that low earth orbit might be close enough to the ground that different locations on Earth's surface would see ISS as being in different constellations at the same time. Here's the ISS orbit inclination, as well as Hubble:
That means we could get REALLY weird with it if we wanted to. Why bitch about ISS in Sagittarius when you could bitch about it in Pegasus or Hydra? Hubble in Lepus or Lynx?
Idk what's going on with me rn but it's Star Link's fault
tom nook is NOT a landlord!!! he is a construction worker! he SELLS you a WHOLE HOUSE! He is not CHARGING YOU however many bells a month to live there! You PURCHASE a HOME that he BUILDS FOR YOU and then you PAY HIM FOR HIS SERVICE. He charges no interest he sets no time limit it is a relationship built on trust. the only penalty you get for not paying off your home is that he won't build more home until you pay him for the first one. A guy that builds you a house wherever you want him to and then charges you for the cost of construction is not a landlord you own the fucking home
He is, however, in the mafia

why is it so hard for people to grasp that disabilities disable and chronic illnesses are chronic. yes even when it inconveniences you. yes even when your patience runs out
I think a lot of people would benefit from unlearning the idea that casual sex is inherently disgusting, harmful, or immoral just because they personally don’t want to partake in it. You can stand up for sexual safety and consent without acting like people who enjoy fucking strangers are degenerates. I take no issue with anyone asserting boundaries or stating that they’re not interested in certain kinds of sex or even sex as a whole. But when you condemn or express disgust at others for engaging in consensual sex, that’s when you start to sound like a puritan.
Btw, this includes self-proclaimed “feminists” who shame and lecture women for giving men “access” to their bodies. Bodies are not commodities and sex is not inherently transactional. You don’t lose anything by having sex on purpose with a person you find attractive. Sex is not some metaphysically transformative thing that bonds you to the other person forever. It is literally not that deep.
