in a lot of ways i feel like the racial optimism of star trek has been co-opted by this sorta generalized (white) queer optimism.....like the show being one of the few to attempt racial equality in the context of jim crow segregation and the civil rights movement matters less in the fandom mind than the ladies who wrote zines about spirk.....
like idk i guess another way to describe it would be that it feels like a lot of ppl characterize spock's internal conflict as not one of being mixed race but of primarily being gay....and of course he's kinda this catch-all metaphor for marginalization in a way but Very Specifically a Racial metaphor....
