The US Government is currently trying to pass an incredibly dangerous national law for trans youth called HR 2616.

This bill would ban all Federally funded schools from teaching about gender identity or sexual orientation, prevent teachers from using the correct pronouns and names for trans students, remove books with any trans representation in them, and even go as far as to prevent teachers from acknowledging trans identity AT ALL.

Any school that does not follow this will lose all federal funding. This bill would also require teachers to forcibly out trans students to their families, which would be fatal to any trans student with a transphobic Family or just hateful family in general. Trans people are already a group that already has some of the highest rates of being victim to suicide, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

This bill actively makes teachers put those innocent children at such a big risk. This bill has rapidly passed the house this week with support from all 209 republicans, as well as 8 democrats. But, it's still being voted on in the senate, which means there is still time to help stop this.

OP makes it seem like this law will only target schools. In reality it will target every single institution that receives any federal grant including hospitals, universities, and nonprofits, as well as school districts. Here’s a link to an article by the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention detailing the exact reach of this law.

I’ve done a lot of research on the process of genocide and the anti-trans movement in the US. This will fully tip the US in my eyes from the early to the mid stages of genocide against trans people.

Even just in schools, this law poses an existential threat to the trans community as a form of forcible child transfer, or the process of taking children from one group and raising them in another. Forcible child transfer is and has been employed as a tactic in nearly every single genocidal regime in the past, including the Nazis to polish children of “promising racial status”, the Ottoman Empire during the Armenian genocide to young children whose parents were calculated to not be likely to survive the genocide, as well as the US itself to indigenous children who for almost 100 years could be freely forced to attend boarding schools designed to “kill the Indian to save the man”.

This is commonly done either through the use of specialized boarding schools/orphanages such as in the Armenian genocide and US Indigenous genocide where the curriculum of erasure can be more extreme and complete. Or just as effectively through total isolation from others of a group in public schools that assign them a new identity, such as with the Nazis. Modernly, Russia has forcibly transferred around 30,000 and counting Ukrainian children to public schools in Russia where they are assigned Russian names, forbidden to speak Ukrainian, and taught Russian culture.

Just like in other genocides, this is done now in the US through assigning a name incongruent with the child’s identity and preventing the teaching of that identity, but the US has also adapted other strategies of ethnic genocide for the unique circumstances of trans and nonbinary communities.

The goal of this law is to prevent the reproduction of trans identities by limiting young, closeted trans people’s knowledge of how their identity can manifest. Not only through directly preventing teaching about it, but by undermining the legitimacy of such identities for anyone who is brave enough to express themselves. Forcibly outing trans people to their parents creates an effective and sometimes life-threatening consequence for expressing trans identity.

This law MUST be stopped.
