Part of me also wonders if the answer lies in your ask itself; Mats is super active on social media and probably does most of the posting himself, so when it comes time to show his support for others, he does it publicly (and probably also in private messages). Perhaps for others it’s a bit different. Maybe their social media managers do most of the heavy lifting, so they don’t post much themselves, and maybe they did send private messages. But you also have a point that with public figures, there’s a certain expectation for some of the private to be made public, like personal messages wishing Mats good luck in his retirement. Idk, it was sad to see Mats not get much of the same energy back in his retirement (at least publicly), especially considering how much energy he puts into supporting his current and former teammates. I wish we could’ve gotten a sweet farewell post from Thomas also (and maybe I missed it if there was one), but I’m sure he sent a message over privately. I hope he (and more of Mats’ former teammates) reached out; he really does deserve some love!
