I'm not a parent, but I'm a kid of a woman that I don't think exactly knows how to be a mom.

When you raise your kid with only punishments don't fucking expect us to do what you want when we grow older. As teenagers we want to make our own decisions, small or big.

When you're upset with us, you will be heard more likely when you somehow calmly talk to us rather than yelling at our fucking faces and not letting us get a word in.

When you once react aggressively to something minor that we did, we'll most likely lie to you the next time. Example: my cousins and I ate some take-out instead of dinner, we paid for it with our own money but my aunt managed to get fucking mad cuz we didn't do what she specifically told us to. And my cousin, very reasonably, said "we didn't tell you because we knew you'd react like this". She got even more mad and started yelling that he can't make his own decisions and stuff, still not letting him to say a damn word.

Parents, WE NEED YOU to grow up good, but we can't if you don't support us and are strictly against us. It's hard, being a teenager, we don't know a lot of stuff and we need you to tell us how to do certain things. But PLEASE don't yell at us when we do something wrong, maybe explain and help us figure it out, but don't yell at us.

It hurts so much when we need a grown up to help us or simply to talk to, but we know our parent isn't the one, because they'll get mad at us and from fighting over a little thing we'll end up fighting about every single choice we made and our friends and everything.
