Diana woke to agonizing pain flooding every inch of her body, the kind of pain that latched on and only grew worse. Her eyes forced themselves open, vision blurred until the world dissolved into shapeless blobs of color. Pain relentlessly pulsing through her bones.
Then the ground beneath her gave out.
One second, she was watching her twin brother sacrifice his life, the next, the damn floor was gone.
“Oh fuck!!!”
Her scream tore out of her as her stomach lurched and she plunged into the void, air whipping violently past her. She felt weightless, time froze in place, stuck between my world as the scorched wasteland passed by. She flailed wildly, arms grasping for anything, but there was nothing. The air around her began to heat, growing suffocatingly hot, so hot her skin felt like it was melting.
For a moment, she became weightless, time froze, trapping her between her world and the scorched, desolate wasteland below. Every nerve in her body screamed in agony. Her skin burned and tore when she slammed into cold metal, the impact knocked the breath from her lungs. The smoldering heat vanished instantly, replaced by a biting chill as she realized she’d landed inside the cage.
“Well look what we have here.” The air chilled, as her body jerked, as she turned her head and found her twin’s face staring back at her, except it wasn’t his, barely an inch away from her own. She flinched, trying to scramble away trying to put distance between them, only for a sharp pain to explode through her lower back.
Lucifer smirks seeing the fear spread across her face, as his fingers brushing against her cheek leaving a trail of goosebumps follow. The more she looked at him the more it hurt. Lucifer was wearing her twin’s face and using it against her. It wasn't just an illusion, it wasn’t a cruel imitation, but the exact face of her twin brother. The same hazel eyes she'd grown up with, the same sharp jaw, the same freckles dusting across his nose. The face that had laughed beside her, fought beside her, protected her.
Except these eyes no longer held the familiar warmth they once did, all that remained was a dull husk void of any emotion, every familiar feature was twisted by something ancient and wrong.
She knew when her brother had thrown himself into the Cage to stop the Apocalypse. She knew Lucifer had taken him hostage as his vessel, but knowing that, did nothing to prepare her for the reality of looking into her twin's eyes and finding the Devil staring back. It was Sam's face, but it wasn't her Sam.
“Now what are we going to do about you?” he asked, standing above her broken body, “You aren’t supposed to be here?” Lucifer stepped atop her leg pressing his weight onto it. “Ugh!”
“Look at you,” he sneered, squatting down and yanking her hair back until their eyes locked, “A poor defenseless, disgusting, worthless human stuck in a cage with the devil himself for all eternity.”
His smirk continued to grow, “We are going to have Soooooo much fun together.” suddenly his smirk dropped, his eyes sank void of emotions as his eyes locked into Diana’s.
“Now, get up.” He orders his grip on Diana vanishes as her body is roughly discarded, tossed upon the ground. Diana’s body screamed in protest, but something unseen forced her upright anyway like invisible hands yanking her by strings. Her legs buckled, barely holding her weight as she swayed.
“Good,” Lucifer hummed, circling her slowly. “We can’t have our guest missing the full experience.”
“I’m not your guest,” she spat, lifting her gaze to glare at the devil.
He smiled. “Oh, you are so much more than that.” With a flick of his fingers, the cage vanished. Or maybe it didn’t, nevertheless the world had shifted. Diana stumbled as the ground beneath her changed from cold metal to cracked earth, blackened and smoking. The air thickened with ash. Screams echoed in the distance.
“Welcome,” Lucifer said, spreading his arms, “to hell.”
Diana’s stomach twisted. Figures moved in the distance, people, or what used to be people. Some crawled, some hung suspended in nothing. Some just… stood there, unmoving, like they’d forgotten how to exist.
“What is this?” she whispered.
“This?” Lucifer tilted his head. “This is what happens when time stops mattering.” He stepped closer, his voice dropping, “Everyone here thought they could endure. That they’d hold onto who they were. Spoiler alert they didn’t.”
A man nearby suddenly screamed as something unseen dragged him backward across the ground, his fingers clawing uselessly at the dirt until they snapped.
Diana flinched and Lucifer smiled, “Oh, don’t worry,” he said softly. “You’ll get used to that.”
Diana held back a scoff as she snapped back, “I won’t,”
He leaned in slightly, eyes gleaming with malice. “You will.”
Another flick, the world shifted again. Now she was somewhere darker, the air colder, cages, rows and rows of them. Diana’s chest tightened at the sight.
“No…” she breathed.
Lucifer watched her carefully now, studying every flicker of emotion. “Ah,” he murmured. “You feel it, don’t you?”
“Feel what?” Diana questioned.
“Connection.”
Her heart started pounding, the thumping echoing in her ear.
“You humans are so… predictable,” he continued. “Drop you into hell, and eventually you find something you care about.” A small smile. “Or someone.”
Diana’s gaze moved frantically across the cages.
“Go on,” Lucifer said, “Take a look.”
She didn’t want to, her every instinct screamed at her not to, but her feet moved anyway. Her feet grazed the bloodied floors, her eyes scanned each cage, one cage empty. Another one, empty, a third one… A body unmoving.
Another….
Someone whispering to themselves over and over like a broken record. Her breathing grew sharper with each step.
“Stop…” she muttered.
Lucifer ignored her pushing her buttons, “Keep going.”
Then… A sound, a soft broken sound.
Her head snapped to the right. “…Adam?” she whispered, the name slipping out before she could stop it.
Lucifer’s smile sharpened. “Well done.”
Diana didn’t wait this time. She ran stumbling, nearly falling, slamming into the bars of the cage as she dropped to her knees.
“Hey! Hey, look at me!” Her hands gripped the metal. “Adam!”
Inside, Adam Milligan barely reacted, he looked wrong, not just hurt, worn down. Like something had been slowly erasing him. He looked older but smaller than she remembered. His face was bruised and bloodied, lip split, one eye swollen nearly shut. His body curled inward like he was trying to make himself disappear. For a moment, he didn’t respond. Then, slowly, his visible eye flickered open.
A pause. “…go away,” he rasped.
That hurt more than anything she’d seen so far. Diana, unlike her brothers, cared for the boy. She wanted nothing more than to embrace and protect him.
“I’m not leaving you,” she reassured with no hesitation in her voice.
Adam paused, not responding, “You should,” he muttered.
Behind her, Lucifer approached, “He’s one of my favorites,” he said conversationally. “He took longer to break than most. But they always do, eventually.”
Diana bit her lips as her hands tightened their grip at his words. She hated the way he spoke. She hated the way he made her skin crawl every time he uttered a word in her brother’s voice.
“Open it.”
Lucifer stepped back, raising a brow. “Demanding, aren’t we?”
Diana’s jaw clenched as her hold on the bar tightened, “Open. It.” Diana barked.
For a moment, he just watched her. Then… the cage door creaked open on its own. Diana didn’t hesitate to look back; she rushed inside, dropping beside Adam, carefully turning him toward her despite how he tensed at the contact.
“Hey, hey. Easy,” she murmured. “It’s okay.”
“It’s not,” he shot back weakly, trying to pull away. “It’s never—”
He stopped when he finally looked at her, his confusion written across his face. His eyebrows furrowed as he squinted his eyes, “…you’re not supposed to be here.”
Diana let out a quick laugh forgetting the danger that stood just a mere foot away, “Yeah,” she said softly. “I get that a lot.”
He frowned slightly, trying to decide if she was real or just another trick. “Lucifer,” Diana said, her voice turned cold without looking away from Adam, “what did you do to him?”
“Nothing he won’t eventually thank me for,” Lucifer replied lightly.
That was it. Diana’s expression hardened. “No,” she said on impulse.
Lucifer raised a brow and tilted his head. “No?”
A pit formed inside Diana’s stomach, an ache spread throughout her body. She wouldn't let this overgrown manchild continue to torture her last remaining family, “You don’t get to do this to him anymore.”
Lucifer laughed, “Oh, this should be good.”
Diana shifted, placing herself between Adam and Lucifer shielding Adam from Lucifer’s prying eyes. She bit her lip preparing herself for what she was about to say, “You want to break someone?” she said. “Try me.”
Adam’s head jerked slightly. “What! No, don’t—”
“I’m serious,” she cut in, her voice firm despite the fear clawing at her insides. “Whatever you were doing to him you……you do it to me instead.”
Lucifer’s eyes lit up, “Do you have any idea,” he said softly, “what that actually means?”
Diana’s jaw clenched as her head raised, hard eyes meeting Lucifer’s, “it doesn’t matter he's my brother and I won't let your fucked up ass hurt him”
Silence filled the air, then…. “Deal.”
It hit instantly. Pain unlike anything before, deeper, sharper, like it was reaching inside her and tearing her apart from the inside out. Diana gasped, her body locking up but she didn’t move. Didn’t let herself give him the satisfaction of seeing her suffer.
“Diana, stop!” Adam’s voice broke, panic cutting through his facade and exhaustion, “You don’t have to do this!”
“Yes,” she choked out. “I do.”
Another wave, this time an invisible force pressed her causing intense pressure on her arm, and suddenly as if unseen hands were gripping the arm a sharp, audible crack shot through the room. Diana cried out as her arm laid limp beside her suspended body.
“I’m not leaving you here alone,” she forced out, “Not like this.”
Adam stared at her, something cracking wide open in his expression. “…why?” he whispered. Her brothers were so quick to give up on him, so why was she doing this for him?
Diana turned her head slightly, just enough to meet his eyes, “Because you’re my brother.” The word landed differently this time. He didn’t reject it, he didn’t argue. Another strike tore through her, and she collapsed forward slightly still shielding him. “Not half,” she added weakly. “Not temporary. You’re mine… and I’m yours. That’s it.”
Lucifer watched, fascinated. Then, abruptly, he stopped, the pain vanished just as suddenly as it came. Diana sagged, barely catching herself.
“…huh,” Lucifer mused. “Well. That’s new.” Suddenly Lucifer disappeared just as suddenly as he had appeared. Adam was staring at her like she’d just rewritten something fundamental. Carefully he hesitantly reached out and grabbed her arm. Not to push her away but to make sure she was still there.
“…you’re real,” he said quietly.
Diana let out a shaky breath with an exhausted smile. “Last time I checked.”
There was a long pause, then Adam shifted slightly closer, just a little. He just sat there, shoulders tense, jaw tight, like if he stayed still enough maybe all of this…. her, the pain, the cage would disappear.
“…you’re an idiot,” he muttered finally, voice rough.
Diana let out a weak, breathy laugh despite the lingering pain still crawling under her skin. “Yeah,” she said, “Been called worse.”
He glanced at her then, quick and sharp, like he was trying to figure her out. His gaze drifted towards her disfigured arm before looking away again.
“You didn’t have to do that,” he said, harsher now. “Nobody asked you to.”
Diana smiled softly at Adam, “I know.”
“Then why?” His voice cracked slightly, and that seemed to annoy him more than anything. “You trying to prove something? Make yourself feel better or—”
“No.”
That stopped him. Diana shifted, wincing, but managed to sit up a little straighter beside him. “I did it because it was happening to you,” she said simply. “And I wasn’t going to just sit there and watch.”
Adam scoffed, but it lacked its usual edge. “Yeah? Welcome to my life.”
Something in that hit deep. Diana studied him for a moment, really studied him. Not just the bruises, not just the exhaustion, but the way he held himself like he expected everything to hurt.
“…you’ve been alone for a while, haven’t you?” she said quietly.
“Don’t psychoanalyze me,” he shot back immediately.
“Not trying to.”
“Good. Because you’re bad at it.”
She smirked faintly. “You’re not exactly subtle.”
He rolled his eyes, but the reaction felt… normal. Almost. Almost like this wasn’t a cage in hell. Almost like they were just two siblings arguing.
Diana shifted closer without really thinking about it, her shoulder brushing his. Adam stiffened at the contact, “What are you doing?”
“Existing,” she said dryly.
“Do it… over there.”
“Mm. No.” Diana sassed a small smile reaching her lips.
“Diana—” Adam started.
She reached up and ruffled his hair.
He froze, “…did you just—” He pulled back slightly, glaring at her. “What is wrong with you?”
“A lot of things,” she said easily. “You’ll get used to it.”
Adam huffed, crossing his arms, “Don’t do that.”
She did it again.
“Diana.” Adam warned.
Again.
“Okay, seriously, stop—”
He grabbed her non broken wrist this time, not hard, just enough to stop her. Their eyes met. For a second, the sarcasm dropped. What was left was something quieter, uncertain.
“…I’m not a kid,” he said, but softer now.
Diana’s expression was gentle. “I know.” She didn’t pull her hand away, neither did he. “But you’re still my brother,” she added.
That word again, Brother. Adam’s grip loosened slightly. “You don’t even know me,” he muttered.
“Then tell me,” Diana pleaded, “We haven’t gotten to know each other at all, not even when we were top side. You know with everything that was going on.”
He huffed out a quiet breath, looking away again. “There’s not much to tell.”
“Try me. Plus, if I’m gonna be stuck here for all of eternity, I’d like to know the person I’d be spending it with.”
Silence stretched between them. For a moment, she thought he’d shut down again, retreat back into that wall he clearly knew too well. But then…
“…I got used to not mattering,” he said quietly, Diana didn’t interrupt but listened.
“Like… people show up, they say the right things, and then…” He shrugged slightly. “They leave. Or they die. Or they find out you’re not worth sticking around for.” His voice stayed flat, but the weight behind it was anything but. “So yeah,” he added, a little sharper now, defensive again, “you doing all this? Not exactly convincing me it’s gonna last.”
Diana let that sit for a second. Then she leaned her head lightly against his shoulder. Adam tensed but didn’t pull away.
“It will,” she said.
“Yeah, okay.” Adam said, rolling his eyes.
“Hey! I’m serious.” Diana protested by puffing out her cheek, looking like a chipmunk who’s eaten much more than she should have.
“You just got here.”
“And I’m still here,” she pointed out. He didn’t respond, so she nudged him slightly with her shoulder. “Besides, you’re stuck with me now.”
“That sounds like a threat.” Adam playful scoffs.
“It is.”
That earned the faintest hint of a smirk, barely there but real. Diana lifted her hand again, slower this time, giving him a chance to stop her. He didn’t, so she gently ruffled his hair.
He sighed, annoyed. “You’re unbelievable.”
“And yet,” she said softly, “here I am.”
He didn’t push her away this time. Didn’t grab her wrist. Just sat there, pretending to be irritated while leaning ever so slightly into her side.
“…don’t make it a habit,” he muttered.
Diana smiled faintly. “No promises.”
A pause.
“…it’s not… the worst thing,” Adam admitted, almost under his breath. Diana didn’t react outwardly. Just stayed there beside him, steady and warm and there. And this time when the silence settled in, it didn’t feel so heavy.

Dean slumped hunched over pressing his hands against his wounded side. He laid flat, unable to do anything to save his younger brother. The one he had to raise when he himself had no one to raise him.
Dean’s heart drops as the mouth of the pit widens, swallowing both Sam and Micheal.
For a moment the world went silent. Dean’s gaze moved from the pit over to his only family left, his sister.
His sister.
How could he forget about his sister?
She stood still, face and body filled with fear.
The world was silent only for a moment when suddenly the pit’s hungry mouth opened wide once more. This time it was only stronger, Dean watches as the ground caves in on itself sucking his sister in. He killed her.
After years of torture. Years of protecting her family, her brother. He finally did it. He killed her. She expected to just respawn, pulled right back into her eternal suffering.
Instead, she found herself in a white room sitting across from Death. He causally legs uncrossed with a handful of fries and milkshake in hand. He looks up, staring at her, his eyebrows raised clearly bewildered by her presence, silently demanding an explanation.
“Diana Winchester.” he said at last, placing down his assortment of food. His eyes meet hers, “We meet again, now why are you here? It's not your time yet?” Death questioned.
He crossed the room towards her battered figure before she could even respond. The last time Diana had seen him was when he’d given Dean his Horseman ring. She hadn’t had the chance to talk to him then or thank him. Even if he’d acted outside Lucifer’s control, yet he still helped them.
She groaned, shifting slightly, “Ugh, sorry, mister Death s-sir... I don't know how to address you.” Diana allows a small smile to form letting out a small laugh, “Uuh idk guess Lucifer finally got too carried away with the torture.”
“Death is quite fine my dear.” Death answered a soft smile spread across his face, “You’re much more polite than those bothersome brothers of yours.”
He pauses, his eyes sweeping across her form studying her, “Now then you said Lucifer did this? I was under the impression he’d be locked back into that cage of his; alongside that arrogant archangel brother of his.” He asked with a quizzical look crossed his face, eyebrows raised.
Diana winced from the pain in her lower back, “They were.” she pauses, gears turning as she tries to recount the event, “Unfortunately the ground decided to say bye-bye, and I got dropped into that cage with those two psychos with major daddy issues alongside my brother Adam.”
“Brother? I was under the impression that you only had two brothers, not three?” Death questioned.
She let out a dry laugh, her eyes dropping shut for the first time since entering the cage, “We might not share the same mother but he’s still my brother. No matter what my other brothers think.”
Death’s eyes soften as he takes in the new information logging it in the back of his mind. His eyes continue to check over her, finally beginning to take in how damaged she had become. Whether it be her beaten, burned, bloodied body to the fresh wounds blending into the scars that now marked her skin. He knelt and pressed a hand gently to her temple.
Warmth surged through her as the pain vanished from her body.
The pain vanished. Her body felt reborn, stripped of any pain that previously haunted her body. Her wounds began knitting themselves back together, leaving only a distant ache behind. Diana’s eyes widened as she stared up at him. He looked concerned.
“Diana,” he whispered, “you’re crying.”
She reached up, her fingers brushed her cheeks, feeling the salty liquid trek down her face. Her hands began to tremble, her head lifted to find death still facing her concern still present in his stare. She hesitates before she surged forward, wrapping her arms around him in a suffocating embrace. She feels his body tense under hers, before he relaxes pulling her close returning the embrace.
“Thank you so much!” she sobbed, “f-for everything from helping my brothers and I catch L-lucif-fer, giving us your r-ring.” she sniffled, “I-I know my brothers will never say I-it but we o-owe you. And if it’s not too much, can you save Adam. He shouldn't be alone.” Her hands squeeze harder clutching the fabric of his suit till her knuckles turn white as snow. She pulled harder, bringing him closer, the lack of touch kicking in. They stayed that way for hours, death holding her in a warm embrace as she sobbed until exhaustion claimed her. Her eyes grew heavy as darkness closed in.

Darkness. For the first time in what felt like forever, it was finally quiet, peaceful even. There was no incessant taunt from Lucifer, no screaming, nothing. Diana stirred with a soft groan, her body sinking into something soft, too soft. She felt a mattress, blankets, and a pillow? That alone got Diana to raise a brow, that alone wasn’t right. She’d grown used to the cold metal walls lined with blood.
Diana slowly cracked open her eyes. She was met with a white ceiling stretched overhead. The room smelled faintly of copper probably due to her previous injuries and something else… fries?
“...huh?” Diana groaned out blinking several times before pushing herself upright. Dian brought her hand to her side, feeling for injuries. Nothing hurt, all previous signs of injury gone just like that. All her broken bones and various burns that previously littered her skin vanished as if she was never injured to begin with.
“Easy now, little one. Wouldn’t want you injuring yourself,” the familiar voice spoke, freezing Diana still.
She looked up to see Death himself standing above her. He was dressed in an expensive looking pinstripe suit fitting for the horseman, quite a contrast to the chocolate shake and fries he held. Beside him was Adam sitting right beside Diana, equally confused as her. He sat tensed, his foot anxiously tapping against the wooden floor. His hands captured hers, clutching them tight, scared that at any second, she’d disappear.
The two had grown impossibly close during their time with Lucifer. Despite the never-ending torture with lucifer the two found comfort with each other, they were each other’s light in the dark.
For several long seconds Diana just stared. First down at herself, then back to Adam, then at Death.
Diana raised a brow and joked, “...Am I dead?”
Death rolled his eyes, sighing, “No.”
“...Mostly dead?”
“No.”
“Not even a little dead?”
Death rubs his temple hiding his slight smile that tugged at the corner of his mouth, “Still no.”
Adam flicks Diana's forehead, "Do you always have to ask these many questions?”
Diana winces, sending a glare at Adam, "Hey! I cope with humor.”
“Yeah, I noticed, it needs work,” Adam deadpanned.
Death let out a low sigh at their bickering, “It most certainly does.”
“Not even five minutes awake and I'm already being ganged up on.” Diana huffed slouching down into the bed.
The two siblings continue to bicker till Death clears his throat making his presence known again. His amusement faded and was replaced with a seriousness he’d worn when the first time Diana saw him. The two fell silent watching the horseman.
Death stood to address the two, "Diana.”
Diana straightened her smile dropping.
“Adam.”
Adam looked up as well, instinctively tightening his grip on Dian’s hand.
“There’s something you need to understand.” The two remain silent, “The cage remains intact. Meaning you won’t be able to remain here for much longer.”
The words hung in the air like a guillotine as they pierced her heart. She froze and her stomach dropped.
Death's expression softened, “if I could, I would.”
Adam looked away before either of them could see the flicker of hope die in his eyes, “So we have to go back.”
Diana felt ice crawl down her spine at the thought of that monster. Diana’s eyes go wide as her voice cracks, “No…no.”
Death's voice remains level, “I didn’t say immediately.”
The two froze, unmoving, so much so the two could pass off as statues. After a moment of silence Adam let out a long shaky breath.
“There is… one thing I can do.” He stops a million thoughts flooding his mind, but none could explain what possible reason for what he was about to do. “I cannot remove you permanently, I cannot destroy the Cage, for that would be far too much trouble on my part.” He pauses adjusting one of his cuffs, “But… I can occasionally retrieve the two of you when you sleep.”
Diana blinked, “What? Why the fuck would you do that for us?”
Death looked almost offended, “My dear… I might be the horseman of death but I’m not like that monster you’re roommates with. I know how insufferable angels and God are. Plus, I’ve become rather fond of the two of you, you’re entertaining.”
Diana remained still, you could see the cogs turning in her mind while Adam looked genuinely stunned. Trying to process what they’d just been presented with. An escape. Not forever but a little blip of peace.
“You can care?” Adam asked in shock.
Death sighed dramatically at their stunned expression, “I am ancient, I am inevitable, but I am not heartless. You both have endured more than any soul should.” His gaze hounds in on Diana, “And you continue to throw yourself into suffering for others.” He sighs, “and I believe you’ve both earned the occasional vacation. Plus, the extra company wouldn’t hurt.”
Adam for the first time in centuries let out a laugh. It was small and hoarse, but it was real, “you got that right.”
“Jesus’ dude, you sound like Donald Duck with that laugh.” Diana joked trying to break the tension that was quickly filling the room.
Adam’s face sours at the comparison, “I did not.”
Diana cocked a smirk, "You just did. Seriously dude you should give Disney a call.”
Adam scoffed, “I absolutely did not.”
“Traitor.” Adam quipped, crossing his arms.
Diana leaned against him, bumping his shoulder, “Worth it.”
Adam rolled his eyes, “You’re impossible.”
“So, I’ve been told.”
Death watched the siblings bicker quietly, allowing himself the rare luxury of silence, a stark contrast to his everyday life being the horse man of death. He knew what awaited them, he knew what horrors still laid within the Cage. He felt pity for the duo, both forgotten by their so-called “family”. He knew he couldn’t save them, not completely.
But perhaps…
Perhaps by giving them these moments, a warm bed, quiet, laughter. Then maybe that was enough to remind them of their humanity. Enough to keep Lucifer from taking the last piece of who they were. Death looked towards the endless white beyond the room. The pressure was already pressing in; the cage was calling them home.
But… not yet.
For now, he would let them rest.

Lucifer let out a deranged laugh stepping closer to Diana’s battered frame. His laugh echoed throughout the cage as Diana laid motionless on the blood-soaked floor. Every breath she took pushed painfully against her bruised ribs. Everything hurt she could remember the last time she wasn’t in pain.
Somewhere behind her she heard Adam cry out, “Diana!”
She tried and failed to get her neck to turn. It was too painful.
Lucifer lazily sauntered into view, casually brushing off imaginary dust from the sleeve of Sam's flannel, “You know…” Lucifer sighed dramatically. “I’m almost disappointed.”
Diana coughed, blood splashing across the floor, “...Why?”
“You still believe you can escape.” Lucifer said, his voice oddly soft. His fingers threaded through her blood matted hair before violently jerking her head upwards. Her hazel eyes meeting his own as he morphs back into his original vessel.
“Fuck you, asshole,” Diana rasped through her blood stained her teeth.
Lucifer blinked then laughed, “Oh, there she is,” He smiled. “My favorite Winchester.” Lucifer's grip tightens on Diana’s scalp before he violently shoves her down against the cold blood stained floor.
Adam slammed himself against the bars of his cage, “Leave her alone!”
Lucifer didn't even glance his way. “You know…” he mused. “I'm going to try something different today.”
His thumb brushed blood from Diana's cheek as he pinned her to the floor. Pushing her head further into the cold metal floor.
She swallowed another mouthful of blood, “yeah and what’s that?”
Lucifer barked out another laugh, “Oh, you’ll see.” He stood slowly, as his wicked grin returned to his face. In a blink of an eye Diana flew forward crashing against the cage walls. She winces upon impact.
His grace rolled through Hell like an earthquake; Diana felt the pressure before she saw him move. Grace gathered around Lucifer's fist.
Adam's voice cracked, “No!”
Lucifer ignored him as he drew back his arm. She stared up at him watching his fist fly forward. She saw it coming but was too tired to move.
“...Adam…” She managed weakly, “...don't watch.”
The fist came down.
BOOM!
The entire Cage shook; a deafening roar exploded through Hell.
Lucifer's fist froze inches from Diana's face, “What?”
The air split open reality itself folded backwards. A brilliant pillar of blue-white light erupted between them; wind whipped through the Cage howling. The impact knocked Adam free as he rushed to Diana's side.
Lucifer's expression twisted from irritation to genuine confusion, “...Impossible.”
A figure stumbled out of the light, a trench coat, messy dark hair… Castiel.
He landed hard on one knee, “Found…” He coughed violently. “...you.”
Diana stared, “...Cas?”
His blue eyes lifted, widening almost immediately, “Diana.”
The devastation covering her body stole the words from him, his expression crumpled.
Lucifer recovered first, “Oh,” He smiled, “Castiel.”
Castiel slowly rose to his feet, shielding Diana behind him, “You will not touch her.”
Lucifer laughed looking Cas up and down, “You? What could you possibly do to stop me? You're barely holding yourself together.” Lucifer tilted his head, “Why?”
Castiel’s answer came without hesitation, “She’s family.”
Something flickered across Diana’s face; she hadn't expected that answer.
Lucifer scoffed, “Family?” he repeated mockingly.
Castiel didn't respond, instead his grace flared weaker this time but still unmistakably angelic.
Lucifer sighed, “You know…” he rolled his shoulders, “I've always wanted to kill you properly.”
The Cage erupted as Lucifer lunged forward. Castiel barely blocked the first strike, grace collided with grace. Diana threw an arm over her face as debris rained around her.
Adam shouted something from across the chamber. Neither angel heard him, Lucifer attacked again. Every blow forced Castiel backward. Cracks spread across Castiel's vessel, blood trickling from his nose.
“You can't win,” Lucifer said almost pityingly, pushing his grace against Castiel's.
“I know…I only need a moment.”
Lucifer frowned, “...A moment for what?”
Castiel smirked, “For this.”
He slammed two bloodied fingers against Diana's forehead. Brilliant light exploded around them; ancient Enochian symbols spiraled beneath her.
Lucifer's eyes widened, “...No.”
The sigil activated as light swallowed Diana whole.
The last thing she saw was Adam reaching through the bars, Cas standing between them and Lucifer screaming in rage.
Then everything vanished. She felt weightless as the wind riled past her; she was falling…again.
“...Are you kidding me?!” Diana screamed, her voice disappearing into endless white.

Diana found herself dropped into a familiar house. The scattered cans along with the sharp smell of old beer, leftover pizza forgotten on the kitchen table. It was all too familiar for her liking. It all reminded her of a certain prophet.
“Diana, good to see ya." a nasally voice spoke out.
Diana whipped around to see Chuck. His dark hair was messy and unkept along with his scruffy beard. He looked the same as he did before, but something about him was different. The way he carried himself was lighter yet heavier at the same time.
“Chuck?" Diana asked, completely dumbfounded.
“Mmmm Yes and no." Chuck answered meekly, sucking his teeth.
Diana furrowed her brows at the answer, "What the fuck does that mean!”
Chuck rubbed the back of his neck, looking almost embarrassed, “...Yeah,” he admitted. “About that.”
Diana folded her arms, "'About that?” she echoed. “That's your explanation? You vanish then show up in your bathrobe smelling like stale beer, and answer questions like a cryptic fortune cookie.”
Chuck sighed, stuffing his hands into his pocket “I guess I should start with the important part.”
Diana scuffs, crossing her arms, “You think?”
He looked at her for a long moment before speaking, “I'm God.”
Silence. Diana blinked once, then twice, “...No.”
Chuck nodded, “Yep.”
“No.”
“Afraid so.”
She pointed accusingly at him, “Absolutely not. You're Chuck. You're a prophet who writes weird erotic fanfiction about me and my brother’s lives.”
Chuck chewed his cheek avoiding eye contact, “I did.”
“I punched you in the face.” she explained.
“You did.”
“You cried.” Diana blurted out.
Chuck winced at the memory, “...Also true.”
She stared another few seconds before throwing both hands into the air, "Oh, you've got to be kidding me! What about Cas does he know!”
Chuck flinched, “Yeah, I get that reaction a lot and no he doesn't. As soon as his hand touched your little forehead his memory was erased. He’ll remember you falling into a portal but any memory of me will be gone.”
“So, you're telling me…” Diana laughed in disbelief, “...God looks like this?”
Chuck’s shoulders slumped at the insult, “Hey! I've had better hair days.”
Diana paced around in a circle till she finally snapped, “Where the hell have you been? Humanity's been getting kicked in the teeth for thousands of years! My family's been through literal Hell and apparently actual Hell, and you were what? Writing weird books about our lives. Exploiting our trauma?”
“It’s complicated.”
Diana scuffed. Her nostrils flared up as her frustrations boiled over, “Bitch, that's not an answer.”
Chuck let out a long breath, “I know.” For the first time, there wasn't a joke behind his eyes, “I'm sorry.”
That made Diana pause, only for a second, “...Still mad.”
“Figured.”
She jabbed a finger toward him, “So if you're God fix it.”
“I can't.” Chuck stressed desperation in his voice.
Diana’s eyes narrowed, “Bull.”
Chuck sighed. “I can do many things; undoing death isn't always one of them.”
Her stomach dropped at the words. Her eyes began to well up, “...What do you mean?”
Chuck looked at her sadly, before softly comforting her, “Diana… you didn't survive.”
“Again...WHAT?” Diana cried out. Her brain couldn’t keep up with this. There’s no way she could be one of them. An angel.
“The trip out of the Cage. The spell Castiel used…” Chuck sighed. “...it wasn't designed for a human body that damaged.”
“But I'm right here. I made it out.” Diana sputtered. She can’t be dead. She couldn't be dead. She still needed to save Adam, oh Adam she thought to herself. She’d left him, all by himself with… him.
“You did.”
“Right. So, I'm alive.”
“No.” Diana said. Her voice was broken, lost of all hope.
Silence fell between the two. Till Chuck broke the silence, “I caught what was left of you. You died. You burned up crossing dimensions.”
“No.”
“I'm sorry Diana.” he apologized.
Chuck reached out to Diana but was slapped away swiftly as she took several steps backward, stumbling after everyone, “No.” Her voice cracked. “I just got out…”
“I know.” Chuck said
“I-i was supposed to go home.” Diana stuttered.
“I know.” Chuck repeated.
She laughed bitterly, staring down at Chuck, "...You're God."
“I am.”
“SO. FIX. IT!!” Diana cried out basically pleading at this point.
Chuck's shoulders slumped. His eyes softened as they met hers, “I can't put you back the way you were.”
“Why not?”
“Because there isn't a 'you' to put back anymore.” Chuck blurted out. “So…” He snapped his fingers and suddenly golden light spilled through the room. Diana’s eyes blew wide open at the light eerily creeping towards her. Her head snaps back to Chuck when he says, “...I made something new.”
Only then did the light strike out and wrap around Diana, consuming her. Diana raised her hands prepared for some kinda pain that never came. It didn't hurt, it actually felt quite warm as it settled on her body. But as it did it was as time seemed to slow around her. The ticking of the clock halted before it could tick even the air felt different.
Chuck smiled faintly as the light dimmed out and Diana came back into view, “Congratulations.”
Diana looked down at herself frantically looking down, examining herself for any changes. She kept looking and looking but she felt nothing, but something had changed. Her gaze shifted to Chuck, “...What did you do?”
“I made you an archangel.” Chuck said with an awkward shrug as if it were the most normal thing in existence. As if he hadn’t just completely changed her biology into an entirely different species.
Diana’s mouth hung open, shocked at his bluntness, “...You WHAT?”
Chuck scratched his beard. “Technically the Archangel of Time.”
Diana stared then laughed. She couldn't believe what was coming out of this man’s mouth. In less than ten minutes her entire world had flipped over and shit in her face. “You've officially lost your damn mind. I'm a hunter and I shoot monsters for a living. Not some fucking angel douchbag!”
“Not anymore.”
“I am not becoming one of your feathery cosmic weirdos!”
Chuck shrugged, “Too late.”
She groaned loudly, “so what you’re like my dad now? because I already had one absent father. I do not need another one.”
Chuck rubbed the bridge of his nose, “Yeah...I guess in a way if you think about it like that.” Chuck smiled sheepishly.
Dian lifted her gaze toward him. “Can you at least send me back.”
Chuck winced; his frown deepening as did his pity for the girl. “I can't.”
“My brothers need me. Adam's still down there.”
“I know.”
“Then send me back god damn it!” Diana pleaded.
Chuck shook his head, “It's not your time to return.”
“The hell does that mean?” Diana demanded.
Chuck sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Look... every soul has a story.” He paused, searching for the right words. “Yours was supposed to end in Lucifer's Cage. It didn't. Well…” He winced. “Technically it did. You know what I mean.” He let out an awkward laugh that immediately died away when he saw the look on Diana’s face. “The point is... your story changed. Time itself bent the moment you died, and now you're part of something much bigger than Lucifer, bigger than the Apocalypse, bigger than the Winchesters.”
Diana folded her arms, unimpressed.
Chuck continued anyway. “I didn't make you the Archangel of Time because you're the strongest. I made you one because you'll never stop choosing other people over yourself. That's who you are.” His expression softened. “One day, you're going to meet someone who needs exactly that. Someone whose future... whose life... depends on you being there.”
Diana raised an eyebrow. “...Who?”
Chuck smiled sheepishly. “Can't tell you.”
“Of course you can't.” Diana huffed, rolling her eyes.
“Spoilers.” He shrugged. “Besides, if I tell you, you'll spend the next few centuries trying to outsmart destiny.”
“You're damn right I will.”
Chuck chuckled. “See? Exactly my point.” He leaned against the counter, suddenly more serious. “Before that day comes, you're going to travel a lot and I mean A LOT. You’ll go across different times, different worlds. You're going to see things no angel or human was ever meant to see.” He hesitated before adding, “And... you're not meant to figure all of it out alone.”
Diana frowned. “Meaning?”
“Meaning you're going to meet someone. He's... old. Older than most things. Knows more about time than anyone still breathing.” He smiled to himself. “Stubborn as hell, too. You two are probably going to drive each other crazy.”
Diana narrowed her eyes not believing a lick of anything he was saying. “...Another angel?”
Chuck rocked his hand side to side. “Eh... not exactly.”
Diana sighed and irked, “That's somehow less reassuring.”
“He'll teach you what being the Archangel of Time means. How to control your grace. How not to accidentally unravel history.” He pointed a finger at her. “Which, for the record, I'd really appreciate you not doing.”
Diana blinked. “...You can unravel history?”
Chuck immediately looked like he'd said too much. “...Moving on.”
“What No.” Diana barked back. She jabbed a finger into her own chest, “I'm a Winchester! Not some damn Archangel. Now I'm going back down there and drag Adam and Sam's ass out of that cage.”
“You can’t. They’re already taken care of. Castiel has already raised Sam from hell.”
“I'm not babysitting some old man who I don't even know.” Diana paused, “Who is he anyway?” She asked, leaning towards the god. “And I swear if you start talking like a weird angel fortune cookie, I'm going to beat your ass!”
Chuck’s face paled at the enraged Winchester, “Please don't.”
“I'm serious!”
Chuck's smile faded. “I know you're serious.”
The room fell quiet. For the first time since revealing himself, Chuck looked every bit as old as the universe he created, “You want Adam back.”
Diana's jaw tightened, “I promised him I wasn't leaving him and I left him anyway."
“You didn't.” Chuck’s eyes soften looking down at this broken girl.
“I did.” Her voice cracked.
Chuck shook his head gently. “No, Diana. You died.”
The words hung between them. Till Diana looked away, swallowing hard, “...He's alone.”
Chuck hesitated, biting his tongue before quietly saying, “He doesn't have to be.”
Chuck suddenly raised his hand and the same golden light that changed her into an archangel gathered in his palm. The light lingered in his palm. Glowing brighter and brighter before spreading itself across the room. The light grouped together condensing into a familiar silhouette.
“...Adam?” Diana questioned not believing what her eyes were seeing.
He blinked in confusion, looking between Chuck and Diana, “Diana?”
Before she even realized she'd moved, Diana threw her arms around him. Adam stumbled backward from the force of it before settling his arms around her waist.
“...Ow! Okay, still crushing my ribs.”
She ignored him, holding on tighter, completely forgetting the literal god just a few feet beside them. “I thought…” she whispered.
“I know.” After a long moment, Adam awkwardly returned the hug. “...You're crying.”
“Shut up.” Diana wined punching his shoulder.
Adam held his shoulder, “Ow, I wasn't making fun of you.”
“Mhmm, sure you were,” Diana quipped.
Neither of them moved till Chuck quietly cleared his throat ending their reunion. The two lifted their gaze from each other to chuck.
“As touching as this is, there's a problem.”
Diana immediately stepped in front of Adam, shielding him, “What problem?”
Chuck sighed, “His body is still inside Lucifer's Cage.”
Adam's expression fell.
“If I pull his body out…” Chuck continued carefully, “...his soul stays behind.”
Diana frowned, “...Meaning?”
“It would leave behind an empty vessel.”
Adam’s face soured as he came to the realization, “So... I’d still be trapped.”
Chuck nodded, “well not quite. Only his body will remain in the Cage. but I can free his soul. “He then pointed toward the gold locket hanging around her neck. “And it can live in there.” The locket glowed softly. “He'll be tethered to you.”
The siblings turned and exchanged a look.
Adam lifted a brow. “So, what? I just live in a locket like a freaking genie?”
Chuck considered it for a moment. “…When you put it like that, it does sound a little ridiculous.”
“A little?” Adam deadpanned. “You're telling me my options are eternal torture or becoming jewelry.”
Chuck gave an awkward shrug. “Hey I said I had a solution, I didn’t say it was good.”
Diana looked between the two before turning back to Chuck, all traces of humor fading, “So, He'll be okay?” she asked quietly.
Chuck's expression softened, “He will. His soul will be bound to the locket but not imprisoned by it. Think of it more as... a home.”
Diana glanced down at the gold locket resting against her chest. “Can he leave it?”
Chuck nodded. “Whenever he wishes. He'll be able to manifest beside you.”
Adam frowned, “Will people be able to see me?”
“If you allow them to,” Chuck answered. “You can either remain seen, or unseen your choice”
Adam blinked, “…Huh.” A beat passed before he muttered, “Honestly? I'll take haunting my sister over Lucifer any day.”
Chuck smiled, “Right... before this gets any more out of hand.”
He lifted a hand. Golden light gathered around his fingers before drifting toward the locket around Diana's neck. The metal glowed warmly, Enochian symbols briefly flickering across its surface before fading just as quickly.
Adam blinked. “…That's it?” Adam looked down at himself. “I don't feel any different.”
“You're not supposed to.” Chuck glanced toward Diana. “…You happy?” She looked from the glowing locket to Adam before giving the smallest nod. “…A little.”
Chuck smiled, “Good.”
The room suddenly trembled. A thin crack of brilliant white light split open behind Diana, slowly widening into a portal. Wind poured through the room, tugging at her jacket, pulling her backwards.
Chuck looked toward it with a small sigh, “…Well, off you go.”
“I swear to God—”
Chuck raised an eyebrow, “…Poor choice of words.”
Diana’s face dropped. “Oh, don't you start.”
Chuck awkwardly laughed fearing Diana’s threats, he may be God, but she is a Winchester.
Chuck's smile slowly faded as he met Diana's gaze once more, “...One last thing.”
Diana looked up, immediately suspicious. “Why do I suddenly hate the sound of that?”
Chuck rubbed the back of his neck, his expression turned uncharacteristically solemn, “You can't remember this.”
Diana frowned. “Remember what?”
“Any of it.” His gaze drifted over her, “well some of it,” the golden grace beneath her skin, the locket resting against her chest, Adam standing beside her. “What you are now. For instance.”
Her stomach tightened. “...You're joking.”
“I wish I was.”
“No.” She took a step back. “Absolutely not. I just found out I'm apparently some cosmic time angel, and now you're telling me you're going to erase my memory?”
Chuck's face twisted with genuine regret, before awkwardly trying to ease her thoughts, “Not erase. Just... lock it away.”
“That's the same thing!”
“It isn't.”
“Sure, as hell feels like it!”
Chuck let her anger burn itself out before speaking again. “If you remember you're an archangel before you're ready...” he said quietly, “...you'll change things.”
Diana folded her arms, “So what? I'll be careful.”
“You won't,” the certainty in his voice made her pause, “You'll try to save everyone." He smiled sadly, “You'll stop tragedies before they happen. Save hunters who were meant to die. Warn people about the future. You'll think you're doing the right thing.”
Silence settled between them. Adam moving closer to Diana, bring
“So, I have to forget.” Diana finally spoke.
“For a while.”
“...Will I ever remember?”
“When it's time.”
Diana searched his face for any sign he was lying, “...I hate this.”
“I know.”
She pointed a finger at him.
“If I wake up with another one of your cryptic speeches rattling around in my head, I'm still kicking your ass.”
Chuck let out his signature awkward chuckle, “I'd expect nothing less.”
He reached out, resting two fingers lightly against her forehead. Warm gold spread through her mind, not painful, almost comforting. Images blurred, the light, the word archangel. It all dissolved beneath layers of soft golden haze.
Chuck whispered, almost to himself, “Sleep for a little while, kid.”
When the light faded, Diana blinked in confusion, “...Why are you looking at me like that?”
Chuck forced a smile, “No reason.”
Then the room trembled as he snapped his fingers, and a thin crack of brilliant white light split open behind Diana. Her portal surged and before Diana could react, an invisible force wrapped around her and yanked her backward.
“Oh, you've got to be kidding—”
Adam barely had time to grab her wrist only for his hand to phase through it. “What the…HEY!”
Both siblings were dragged toward the portal. Diana reached toward Chuck hands thrashing in the air to no avail. “CHUCK I'M GONNA KICK YOUR DIVINE ASS!”
Chuck flinches at the threat as he awkwardly looks over one last time watching Diana flipping him off as she descends down into the portal.
The portal swallowed them both in a burst of golden-white light. Silence settled over the house. Chuck stood alone for several long moments, staring at the empty space where they'd disappeared. Finally, he let out a tired sigh and vanished.

Diana dropped against the hard stone floor. “Son of a—”
She pushed herself onto her elbows, wincing as the unmistakable clang of metal echoed around her. “...Seriously?”
She looked around the cell, thoroughly unimpressed. It looked less like a prison and more like someone had tried to make incarceration feel cozy. Then she heard the slow turning of pages. Diana’s head turned to the sound to see a woman laid casually against the bed, with her hands tucked into pages of her blue colored book. Wild blonde curls framed her face as she wore an amused smile that suggested she'd been expecting this exact moment for quite some time.
"Hello, lovely," she said warmly. "It's been a while."
